About 15 months ago, Dell manufactured and shipped an unknown quantity of Dimension 4700 computers withe the CPU fan mounted backwards (air blowing into the case instead of blowing out). Individuals receiving these defective units have been reporting overheating problems to Dell without resolution; however, if you were smart enough to identify and report that the fan was installed "backwards", they would send you a replacement PC at no charge. However, most people do not detect this manufacturing defect on their own and are forced to live with a constantly overheating PC.

In fact, several people have reported that the temperature inside their cases can exceed 147 degrees Fahrenheit during normal operation. There is a potential for fire here and Dell needs to take proactive measures to resolve this issue by sending out a Consumer Notice to potentially affected customers and by also posting a Product Recall notice on their website as well.

This problem is well documented on the internet (link deleted - see below) and all over the Dell consumer support forums also but Dell continues to formally ignore this problem. The Dell mission statement professes "integrity" as a top priority; however, their showing of it is sorely lacking in this instance.
