I purchased a Dell Computer in August of 2001 through a man named John Brailey. He promised me " THE BEST OF EVERTHING" because i am a college student and I would need only the best. I said okay.

I received it and it worked for 1 week then that floppy disk drive stopped working. I called Dell and went through their year long " press 1,2,3" and finally was put on hold for 45 minutes.

Finally someone answers and said we needed to go throug hsome steps to fix it. The tech rep didn't help me so he sent someone out to my house. In September, a guy came out abd couldn't fix it. I had to call Dell back and the end of September, they sent another guy. This man came to my house the end of September, 2 times in October, and 2 times in November.

Keep in mind, that i continued to call Dell and they kept telling me to wait to see what this man can do. By December, the computer floppy disk drive still didn't work but I couldn't call Dell back because I was going out of town for 3 weeks.

In January when I got back, I called and was on hold for an hour. The idiot rep i had decided to put me to a supervisor after I had to beg him 4 times. The rep put me on hold for 2 hours! The supervisor came on and we argued for 35 minutes. Finally I told him that i was sending the computer back and going with Gateway. The supervisor automatically said that he was upgrading my system, giving me all the upgraded software, and I didn't have to pay for shipping! How awesome was that?!

So, if you want service, threaten them with Gateway and see where you get.

Dell PCs are good machines. Buy from HSN.com.

Dell computers in general are very good machines. I have used them at three companies that I have worked for. If the floppy drive died after one week's use, then that is definitely a manufacture's defect of the drive or the drive cable. You could have replaced the drive yourself for less than $25 by going to Fry's Electronics or any computer store that sells 1.4 floppy drives. Considering the repair techs came to your home six times and they could not fix your computer, I would call them incompentent. Regarding Dell's customer service, I would have noted the names of the phone reps and the supervisor and then I would have escalated my trouble ticket to resolve the issue. I know what I'm talking about because I used to work a computer help desk and I used to provide phone support for internet circuits for three ISPs. Last thing, if I had not had my current computer custom built by a friend of a friend, I would have bought a system from HSN.com. HSN has a lot of very good systems with the latest hardware and software at very low prices. HSN has a 30-day money back guarantee. Your local computer store will not allow you to test a desktop or laptop computer at home and then return it because you changed your mind. I have returned unused cookware and electronics and I have received credit card refunds within a few days.
