I was planning a 2500 mile relocation and needed to transport my automobile. After weeks of research I decided on Dependable Auto Shippers.

I dropped my car at the San Lorenzo California hub on 12/12 and was given an estimated date of arrival of 12/22. After tracking my car on or about 12/18 I was amazed to see that my car was about 150 miles from my new destination.

In excitement I contacted DAS to discuss the possible early arrival, and was shocked to find out that my car would not expected at the destination until 12/23.

On 12/23, I was given an EDA of 12/26. On 12/26, still no car, and the new EDA was 12/30. I spoke with customer service manager Kathleen, who authorized a rental car at their expense which was greatly appreciated however, by now I'm starting to worry about vechicle.

12/30 still no car and the EDA is now 1/4. Surprisingly on 1/2, I received a call from the destination representative advising that my car had finally arrived. I rushed to the destination address only to find that my car was not there. I was then redirected to what appeared to be a junk yard at a closed facility a few blocks away.

I quickly spotted my car in the lot, but to my surprise my passenger vent window was busted out, my license plate was missing, the driver floor mat was filled with mud and of course my car was absolutely filthy, but other than that the inside was undisturbed.

A destination representative met me at this location and indicated that the police where on the way. He indicated that he received the car on 1/1 with no damage; however when he arrived today he noticed that the back passenger door was open and the window was broken. The police arrived and took and a report.

I contacted DAS and was told that I could proceed and get the window fixed, but to get 2 estimates and good quality pictures. I got the 2 estimates and the pics and scheduled the repair. In the meantime DAS contacted me to advise that because I did not take out the valuation coverage they would only pay $150 of my $600+ repairs.

Although my car was supposedly broken in while in their possession,(I along with my insurance co think that the car was damaged during transport, due to additional damage to front passenger window) they hold that their contract limit their liabiliy to $250 with a $100 deductible.

Why am I being held to their contracted limits of liability when my automobile was broken into while in their possession on their secured lot? And even further, my car was not delivered to or storaged at the contracted destination address? Why should I have to eat these additional fees?

First, let your insurance company handle the dispute. That is what they get paid for. They will fix your car and go after DAS for the damages. Secondly, if you have to pay a deductable out of your pocket, write a certified letter, return receipt, to DAS letting them know that if they don't refund your deductable within 14 days, you will turn the matter over to the Attorney General's office, and take them to court. If they don't pay, file a complaint with the AGs office. You can do this online. Don't be fooled by their claim that they can't pay you because you didn't take out the insurance. The fact is, they ARE insured no matter what. It's the law, but they do not want to turn in customer claims because they don't want their premiums increased. Don't let them off the hook. I ship cars all over the US, and have had my share of damages. I have never had pay a cent out of pocket.
