You will receive an offer for a FREE Trial of Dermitage on the internet, give them your credit card number, will receive the product, forget to call within 14 days to cancel and will then find a large charge on your credit card. You will call them to complain and cancel and they will let you know that you failed to cancel in the 14 day period according to their Terms and Conditions. After some arguing they will let you know they will give you a credit of $40. If you really push, you can get an RMA number and return the product for a refund.

Read the terms and conditions. Nowhere do they specifically state that you will be liable for an un-refundable charge if you do not cancel within 14 days. The terms simply state you can call to cancel within the 14 days.

This is a ripoff, plain and simple. Their customer support people are trained to let you know that they win 99% of credit card disputes and they have hired Stephanie S. to scour the web for these reports and respond. This is how they make their money.

If Dermitage... and their sister-product TriClear (same company pushing the products) were such great products, then they would have the confidence to simply send you a FREE TRIAL with no strings attached, wouldn't they?

This is their scheme... plain and simple. No sugary offers by Stephanie S. to try and make the customer happy will change this simple fact.

I see that you are spending some time defending this practice. I have read the Terms several times. In fact, depending upon the Syndero product in question, the wording changes a bit. 1. Nowhere in the terms that you have posted above does it explicitly say when the 14 day trial begins. Does it begin when I open the product? Does it begin the minute I click the "submit" button on the order form? When the package arrives at my door? When? 2. Aside from this vague wording, there are several snippets designed to confuse the consumer; "cancel any time" ... "no risk, no obligation". 3. The implication here is that you can give it a shot for 14 days, use it all if you want... but if you don't like it and don't want any more, you better let us know quick and send it back... empty or not. If you fail to let us know fast enough, then we are charging you $69.95... for the very same product we were willing to let you send back empty without charging you if you would have been fast enough. This is pretty much where the Terms end... and anyone could make a reasonable argument that you should have known this much. Please analyze the above. This is all set up to take advantage of people. To *exploit* people. The next step is the critical step and the one that generates the vast majority of complaints and none of it is in the Terms; Now that you see your credit card bill and realize that you neglected to deal with this foolishness, you call the company and the battle is on. They are ready for this, because this is what they do. You are told that you were charged for your FREE product because you failed to let them know fast enough. You tell them you don't want it and want your money back. If you let them know that you are instructing your credit card company to dispute the charges they will quickly let you know that they win 99% of disputes (just a little hint that they have been through this song and dance a few times). But, just to be nice, they will let you keep the product and they will credit you $40. Many give up here and Syndero makes a nice little chunk of money. If you really persist, and are savvy enough to *request* an RMA they will allow you to ship the product back and... if unused... charge you about $10 to restock, if used... about $20. Either way, Syndero makes some money. Do this a million times and it starts to add up.

It's a matter of interpretation.

This is a ripoff... as defined by Webster's dictionary... 1: an act or instance of stealing : theft; also : a financial exploitation. I would say the "financial exploitation" part covers it quite nicely. I believe you are suggesting that the consumer should have bothered to read the Terms and Conditions before submitting the order. I am suggesting two things... 1. These people count on the fact that the vast majority of consumers will not, thinking they are simply getting a FREE TRIAL. This is exploitation. 2. If a person does read the Terms... they do not specifically state that you will incur a $69.95 charge if you do not call within the 14 day window, nor do they state specifically when the 14 day trial will begin. I suggest that this is intentional. This is exploitation. Call the dispute resolution department of your credit card company and ask them if they know anything about TriClear, Dermitage or Syndero.

That is how the system works, except you really have to cancel within about 10 days or get told that the charge has already been processed. However, since this information is available before you make the acceptance of the free trial, there's no rip off here. Just not enough attention to details.
