I entered into Diamonds International in Roaton on 9 December 2014 while on cruise with Carnival Liberty requesting to find a replacement Tanzanite for my diamond mounting as I wanted a darker stone and to set the original stone in a pendant mounting so that I could wear it as a necklace.


 


The sales associate and I agreed on a stone and he stated that the stone would fit into the current head which was on my mounting.  I knew it wouldn't but didn't argue.  Once the repair package was sent to the jeweler, the sales associate told me that they the new stone would not fit in my current mounting and would have to replace the head to set the stone.  I was fine with that.   Since that was the case, I presumed the old stone and head would be taken off of the ring itself and a bale added to the head (easy jeweler's repair)


 


I was told that for some reason, they would have to re-mount the old stone in a new head as well (I still don't understand why) but that I wouldn't have to pay for the new mounting for the pendant.  I received my ring back and it was perfect.  I received a small box with the old stone and pendant mounting.  I took the box and went back to the ship.


 


When I got home, my husband was going to buy me a chain for Christmas.  I opened the box and noticed the destruction of my original stone.


 


I purchased this stone  (4 carats) for $1600 in 2006 while I was stationed overseas in the military and visiting Tanzania. (The sales associates should remember this conversation).


 


I attached the receipt for purchase, a picture of the ring before the jeweler worked on it along with an original appraisal,a picture of my stone after it had been mounted in the pendant setting and a picture of the final product with the new stone (for clarification, I have NO issues with my ring with the NEW stone).


 


I received an email from Mr. Oscar Marin the first week of January and still no resolution to this matter.  They originallh stated that they couldnt find a replacement stone but if they are truly an international organization, this should not be a problem.  Last offer was for me to pay $250 for a stone close to the one they destroyed.  I refused.  Still waiting for resolution.
