Digital Depot Warning : 14X Markup scam, high pressure sales tactics New York, New York
Buyer beware of this store.
Sales reps use high pressure sales tactics, to sell you products with astronomical markups.
Inside the store, I was considering a purchase of a wide angle lens for my camcorder. One of the sales reps first offered me a regular Digital Concepts wide angle lens for $699. At this point, I cracked up in front of them, they realized I could smell their reeking BS. So they lowered the price to $240.
After putting it on my camcorder without my permission, they used high pressure sales tactics and condescending tone of voice in an attempt to rush their sales.
Seeing my disinterest and hesitation, they took the lens off and then offered me a supposedly better lens, the Digital Advance 0.48x Wide Angle + Macro combo lens with a price tag of $699. Again they lowered the price to $250
Then i informed them that even Raynox's brand name lens HD 6600 wide angle lens are $150. Showing my disinterest, I told them to take off the lens which they had screw in so tightly. Instead, they refused, and asked me to offer a price. Unfortunately, at the time, I didn't realize that lens by Digital Advance are no better than no name brands like Digital Concepts and that there exists huge price disparities between brand name lens and no name brands, (in fact, the Digital Advance brand name is not even anywhere to be found on the internet)
Either way, I was disgusted by their sales tactics, so when asked to quote a price, I decided to low ball them to get out of the sale by saying $100. Little did I know, even a discount from $699 --> $100, it was STILL a rip off. In actuality, such lens of this caliber go for about $40USD.
Needless to say they agreed to the price and sold the lens.
I was lucky to be aware of the upper price range that such lens typically go for. Had it been some other less informed customer, the damage would certainly have been much worse.
Certainly boycott this store with their track record until they mend their ways.
