Direct Business Lending is a company specializing in helping start-up companies and entrepreneurs get access to capital. “We want to help the individuals who can’t get approved for financing get approved to qualify for financing. If they don’t qualify for capital, help them understand why and get them in a position to qualify for funding eventually, whether they use our services or someone else’s,” states Jantzen Fugate, CEO of Direct Business Lending.

Leads are primarily acquired through Internet searches regarding small business information, how to start a business, small business loans, etc. “Also, lenders will send us their declines and will live transfer over their start-up leads. These are customers that banks won’t lend to since they don’t have good credit or are in business for 2+ years,” states Mr. Fugate. A typical sales experience for a customer starts with the customer finding Direct Business Lending’s website and then filling out a general information form. At that point, the customer will receive a call from the company to welcome them and give them some information.



DIRECT BUSINESS LENDING ONE-ON-ONE CUSTOMER CARE

"Each individual customer is unique and has different services or products tailored to their individual needs,” explains Mr. Fugate. "For instance, one customer’s experience might involve them signing up, and at that point, Direct Business Lending’s matching technology identifies that they have funding resources available to the customer, so they then send the customer directly to the funding source. In contrast, if the customer is not identified as having funding sources available to them, Direct Business Lending will then have their funding analysts talk with the customer to learn their background and other information to determine how they can qualify the customer and what the customer wishes to accomplish. Once the customer is pre-qualified, they are set up with a consultation with a Senior Funding Advisor to review the client’s fundability, strengths, weaknesses, funding opportunities that are available, and what they can do to increase their chances of funding.”

At times, customers may not feel they are satisfied with the services they are receiving. Two primary examples of complaints involve the response time of the staff at Direct Business Lending, or not being able to receive funding. “We experienced 400% growth, bringing in 15-65 clients per week. With that, we had some growing pains. A couple scenarios [occurred]: not being able to answer calls, voicemails, and e-mails in a timely manner because we had a short staff due to the tremendous growth; [the] response time [ranged] from about 36 hours to about 30 minutes,” explains Mr. Fugate. “Another scenario: occasionally people don’t get funding and we try to explain that we are not guaranteeing funding, we are letting them get in the best possible position to qualify for financing. Sometimes people misunderstand the contract terms and think we are guaranteeing funding,” states Mr. Fugate. Both of these issues are common complaints.

STATED IMPROVEMENTS FROM DIRECT BUSINESS LENDING.

Direct Business Lending has grown is Client Services team 5x in less then 1 year to keep up with the demand. Adding a Quality Assurance department, recruiting a top level client services manager and rebuilding it’s technology platform to better track client communication is part of the ongoing process to providing amazing service to each and every client.

Since receiving complaints, Direct Business Lending has taken a few steps to try to avoid these issues in the future. “We have hired more staff to increase response time. We [also] have a funding advisor explain our services and then they go to the compliance department, making sure that they are moving forward on the right foot,” explains Mr. Fugate. The team at Direct Business Lending also now employs the use of a “welcome call” to explain the process and align all expectations to avoid any misunderstandings of the services provided. Additionally, a Client Services Manager has been hired to help prepare the company for future growth.

Once a complaint is resolved, Direct Business Lending does not have a follow-up process in place. “Once we part ways with an individual, we don’t follow up with them once the situation has been resolved. We also send them a settlement statement agreement. We do take all of our complaints very seriously so that we can use them to propel our company forward and learn from any mistakes we may have made in the process,” explains Mr. Fugate. However, if the customer continued to use their services, there is a slightly different process that takes place. “We do have an Escalations Manager who handles the complaint, then we flag this in our CRM which then notifies the Account Manager, who can also take care of the client and make sure their complaint is taken care of,” explains Mr. Fugate.

If a client wishes to cease business with the company, Direct Business Lending does have a cancellation policy in place. “Each client has the ability to exercise their 3-days’ right to rescind and get 100% of their money back,” explains Mr. Fugate. “After the 3 days, it depends on each case, on how much they get back depending on what services we have provided to them already. Sometimes we have already performed an extensive amount of work on their profile, so we have to take this into consideration.” Customers have the ability to cancel their contract at any time, but whether or not they receive a refund, and how much they receive, is determined on a case by case basis.

I have contacted atty general in salt lake city to file complaint this company needs to be put out of business. approx 1 month ago I contacted direct business lending and spoke to them about getting financing for my trucking company. after speaking to them i was impressed with the knowledge they supposedly had and was told my personal credit should not be a problem. they promised web site business plan domain name d&b number. I agreed to pay deposit and then agreed to pay balance up tp 3500.00 over time for the work they would be doing for me. they promised business plan would be done so that i may have better chance of funding.this was all supposed to be done together. I have done everything they asked as far as paper work is concerned yet I still have only a d&b number that i found out is worthless because no one can get reports or scores under the plan they set up. i can change for more monery.i did my own domain name and could have gotten my own d&b number.I stand to lose my company because it has been so long now I do not think I can recover. i trusted them to come thru so i let my truck go now i cannot work. and cxannot get funding sad. I worked for 5 years on my own to attempt to build this company now it will be all gone.

If you think about it this company has a good thing going if they have 1,000 clients they are working on x159.00 per month = 159,000 dollars a month according to them they have 2,000 clients. a lot of money for no work pretty good ripoff. Atty general needs to look into this company.

Direct bussiness lending did not do my plan  they sent me questionaire and we filled it out and returned it immediately. twice. They constantly tell you oh we dont have that yet or we did not receive. It is always concumers fault. As far as web site. I do not have the items they want they are supposed to do web site put it with a hosting company then domain name that i got on my own can be added all after we approve web site. Once agaoin a stall tactic. they gave me a d7b number it is free yet when I contacted D&B they told me the plan I was under did not allow anyone to obtain info about my company or its credit rating.thus it is useless. if you lok at other complaints about this company they are answering me same as all other complaints. now supposedly this big wig from company wants to remedy this. If they are so good at this why do they not complete what they start.

Thank you for voicing your frustration, I completely understand your frustration. Like any of us, you engaged a company, in this case Direct Business Lending, to provide services to you and if those services are not provided, it makes sense that you are frustrated. My name is Jantzen and I am the CEO of Direct Business Lending. To hear such feedback about our company is very concerning to me and I've taken the time to personally review your file in detail to truly understand where the breakdown occurred. We do not claim to be perfect but we do strive to provide amazing quality of service and are always proactive in resolving any issues that may arise. 

Please review my findings below: 

You engaged our company April 21, 2014 - exactly 1 month ago yesterday.

Given the current state of the file, funding in less than 1 month would be near impossible for any company to accomplish because the situation that that was presented to us..

I personally listened to the initial call with our staff and clearly hear that none of our staff gave the impression that funding was going to happen “soon”, “within 30 days” or anything of the sort. Our staff clearly outlined that there were several steps that need to occur before funding can be achieved. With that said, I understand that the client wants funding ASAP and believe me, we also want to get the client funding ASAP! Please keep in mind, it's the clients profile that's not allowing us to accomplish funding for him and hence the reason for his enrollment in our Lender Prep package. Lenders have very specific guidelines of what they require and if those requirements are not met, any application will be met with an automatic decline. Our firm was engaged to help bring this file into adherence to these specific guidelines and achieve funding for the business.

When looking at why the business plan was not completed as per the claim; I noticed that we sent the client our Business Plan Questionnaire twice over the last 3 weeks, once on April 24th 2014 (three days after engaging our firm) and the second time on May 14, 2014. We understand that you are very busy operating your business and living life and this may not have been your number 1 priority, however, it is impossible for our team to complete the Business Plan without first receiving the required details in the Business Plan Questionnaire, as stated to our client on several occasions. 

If the above client can take a few minutes to complete the Business Plan Questionnaire, our will gladly produce the Business Plan. To help expedite, I will personally request our business plan writing team rush the completion as a VIP client. Please understand, to do our job we really do need to have the Questionnaire completed and returned to us prior to us being able to start. If the above client would like some clarity on any of the questions, myself or any member of our Client Services Department are more than willing to walk our clients through each and every question. We are here to help! 

I also see that the above client is requesting the status of their website.  After reviewing the file, I see that their website design has been completed by our design team and we are currently waiting on the above client to provide “FTP and cPanel” login credentials. We've requested this information on 3 separate occasions from the client; once on May 6th, 2014 a second time one day later, May 7th, 2014 and a third time on May 14t, 2014. 

Respectfully, it is impossible for us to launch the website without this information. If any difficulties are being experienced, please don’t hesitate to contact our Client Services team, we are here to help!

In regards to the D&B number that is referenced as “useless”. D&B is the primary known source for business credit and the first thing to do when starting to build business credit is to establish a DUNS number through D&B. This number is absolutely critical in building business credit. In fact, the SBA (Small Business Administration) actually requests all applicants to have a DUNS number through D&B prior to any SBA loan being approved. So this number is absolutely critical in a business owner’s pursuit for funding. Many lenders place emphasis on what is being reported to the business credit bureaus, much the same way a personal credit score is evaluated for a personal loan, mortgage, credit card etc.

I would never claim that our team is perfect; we are rapidly growing and with this growth come some growing pains that we address as quickly as possible. If we make an error, we are the first to own it and do everything we can to rectify the issue as quickly as possible. With that said, I'm having a hard time pinpointing where our team dropped the ball.

I understand the client’s frustration, based on their post hence why I have personally stepped in. I've reached out to the client directly to try and solve any issues but have yet to receive a response.
