Same here! They called with a free upgrade offer. My nephew anwsered the phone, and said yes to the upgrade. They NEVER spoke to me the account holder. They installed the upgrade, the next day I see a charge on my on-line account for 348.00 for the upgrade. I immediately called them and cancelled the service and returned the DVR. Next thing I get in the mail is a bill for $819.00 for the equipment (that I had already returned) and an early cancellation fee of $420.00, plus other charges. When I called them again, they said you agreed to an upgrade! I said I did not, show me something I signed authorizing this, let me hear a verbal recording of my agreeing to this? Oh, we don't have anything in writing, your requesting is good enough!!! But I didn't request it!!!! Our records show you did! These people are horrible!!!!! Compeletly incompetent! I was a customer with Direct Tv for ten years, paying them $125.00 for service on average montly. I own a muti-family home. All my tenets (3) had Direct Tv. Guess what, NOBODY has Direct Tv anymore, and they never will so long as I own this building. They have cost themselves thousands in annual service revenues. And they'll NEVER see that $819.00, NEVER. I'm disputing it with the credit reporting company, and if that don't work, I'll sue Direct Tv in small claims court!

Cyrus I had the same early cancellation problem with DTV. It is a shambles. They direct you to write their dispute headquarters in CO, but they are really based in El Segundo CA. I sent a 20 page protest to my credit card company, including 9 e-mails from DTV and my original dispute letter. I just wanted 50% off of $440, but now I am disputing the entire charge. The CEO made $28 mil last year! Ken Rashid

Since I obviously wasn't there, I do not know what was in the paperwork that you signed. A quick check of the DIRECTV website shows this: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPage.jsp?assetId=1100106 "Cancellation Fee Varies If you do not fulfill your Programming Agreements, DIRECTV may charge you a pro-rated fee of up to $360 for standard equipment or $480 for advanced receivers." Was there anything like that in your agreement?
