Discount Retail Store Services (DRSS) in Las Vegas, Nevada is a rip-off company. They try to get you to open a dollar store through them. Though they promise to help you secure financing for your store, they make you pay an initial security deposit of $1,500 and an additional $4000.

In the process of helping you secure funding for your dollar store, you end up with 7 to 10 different credit cards with line of credits, which in turn brings down your FICO score down for all 3 credit bureaus by 15 points or even higher.

According to their policy, the $1,500 security is 100% refundable if they are not able to secure you funding or find you a suitable location for your business. In my case, they tried to negotiate a lease term with two locations that I myself knew was not good locations; however, DRSS tried to convince me to take those locations despite my explicit instructions to them that those location were not suitable.

The moment DRSS realized that I was having a cold feet and unhappy about their services, they tried to escalate the lease negotiations, so that it would come across as if they did what they were supposed to do in order to forfeit my $1,500 security deposit.

While DRSS were busy negotiating two retail sites that I had blatantly told them were not acceptable, I realized I had to act fact by asking them for 5 reference of store owners who have opened their stores for at least 5 years. DRSS could not provide me with any reference as specified but only sent me two references from New York City and California, while I live in Maryland.

I asked DRSS again for references in the DC, VA, MD metropolitan area and they finally sent me a reference in VA that only had been opened for 2 months. I started doing my own investigation of DRSS former store owners and I was able to speak with 2 of their former clients and their testimony about DRSS was horrible so at that moment I knew I either had to put everything on hold until further notice.

DRSS was advised to put everything on hold in terms of negotiation and then I later requested for a refund of they $1,500 that they had promised would go towards my purchase of the store at the end. According to the DRSS policy, the only time money would be deducted from the $1,500 is when their real estate agent goes onsite to investigate more about the site they find. In my case, their real estate department never made any trip onsite; I was the one physically going to do further investigation of the sites.

At this point, I finally notified DRSS that I had decided to buy a house instead and therefore needed my refund of the $1,500 security deposit back and that they could keep the $4000 I gave to the financing department. DRSS is now telling me that they are not going to refund me the $1,500 because they found me a suitable site, though I never agreed to their lease negotiation. I have given them 30 days to refund my money; my next step after this is talking to a lawyer.

Discount Retail Store Services (DRSS) contacted me and apologized. It was a total misunderstanding, so they in fact gave me my security deposit of $1,500 back.

I did not get the $4000 security deposit back because they were able to secure funding for me per their initial agreement.

In fact, I plan to work with DRSS in the future to open up a 2000 sq. ft. store as soon as I am able to save more money.

Their customer service is excellent and I truly enjoyed working with them.
