After few weeks of research and reading reviews, we approached DJ Jaz, as per a friends recommendation. We spoke to him at length, visited him in Atlanta to discuss details of the wedding and our expectations from a DJ. He sounded very promising and knowledgeable. So we signed him up for our Sangeet party and Reception at a very high price (he knew the urgency we had so he backed up on the expectation he gave us with working in our budget) At that time, we had asked him to edit few songs that we were going to dance on, a total of 7 minutes on Sangeet night and 5 minutes for reception night. We signed a contract with him for DJ and MC services. 50% of the monies were mailed to him, which he claimed he never received, so we had to deposit it into his account and the rest 50% handed him cash the day of the wedding.

Agenda for both days were discussed and we were all set for our wedding celebrations. DJ arrived in Tampa on the 5th, the day of our Sangeet Party. He showed up early at the Sangeet venue and set up at a place that was very inconvenient for us to host the guests and gave an explanation that didn't reason. We let that slide and had to shift furniture to try to best accommodate dinner and dance programs. The event started around 9pm and started to build up after dinner at 10:30. The guests started coming on the dance floor around 12.00am and then he tells us that he wants to wind quick so he can reach the reception hall early tomorrow.

We showed our displeasure which apparently he didn't care much and started winding up before 1:00am. His excuse was that he was very tired and travelled from Atlanta so he wanted to rest up to be ready for the Reception next day. He did not edit the 7 minute song medley well and there were two awkward pauses during the dance performance. We gave him the benefit of doubt, but technically he should have been well prepared for two days as planned. He made it sound that it was just another project for him, but it was the most special time for us. We had families come over from different states and countries and our goal was to make sure they are entertained well.

A good DJ is one who can sense his audience and know what tracks to play to keep them entertained and make them want to shake their legs. All DJ Jaz did was, just played music, and repeated several songs multiple times. He did not take any additional interest in making sure the show went well. He seemed very tired, and disconnected with his audience.

The next day our grand entrance did not synchronize with the timing given to him, neither did the First dance. To cover that, we had to pause and waive at the audience, to pretend it was part of the song, even though we were covering up the DJ's fault.

Not only this, but DJ Jaz did not MC properly at the reception, like it was agreed. He was stretched with his setup and the Bride's family had to step up and take charge, as guests had already arrived and DJ was still busy at his station. There was yet another awkward silence right before cutting the cake, he started playing the song but did not announce it for the Bride and Groom to get up and cut the cake, (which was on the agenda).

In my opinion he did not have the charm and personality a DJ should posses to keep their audience engaged at all times.

I am glad, that both our families are loud and like to have fun, so they managed to entertain themselves, if we were to just depend on DJ Jazz, my wedding would have been a flop. He did not play the entire playlist that was given to him. Several songs were repeated more than once. Amongst the several errands that we had to run and making sure everything went smoothly, my family and I had to keep an eye on the DJ and guide him every hour that night. This was not the reason we paid him $1000-$1200 extra to come down from GA. I could have gotten a local (new) DJ, who would have done just about the same job.

My recommendation is that if you like to party loud and want your guests to have fun and be excited, then DJ Jazz is not the right choice. He is a good person but that doesnt cut for a good DJ. He did not even have the courtesy to email/call us and apologize for the mess ups that he did during our wedding.
