I called 1-877-679-6781 to answer a classifieds ad for mystery shoppers in my local paper. They took my credit card number for a $2.95 "one time charge" and directed me to shoppersystems.com and then played a recording over the phone that either malfunctioned or was purposefully cut short. But the website had my account registered regardless.

I did not authorize additional charges to my card, nor was I told about them. The recording did say I could get refund of the $2.95 if I canceled within 7 days. In exactly 7 days (after I could not get a refund) a charge of $49.95 was placed on my card by DRI*SHOPPER 800-880-2754 MN.

I called the original number and asked to cancel their service that I had not yet used to find a shopping job and I wanted to avoid further charges. The lady told me I had received "audio verification" (I hadn't asked). I responded by demanding a full refund repeatedly as she continued to insist I had been given "audio verification". When I said I would resolve this through "other authorities", she finally gave the customer service number, 1-800-880-2754, which had already appeared in my bank statements.

The heavily accented man at 1-800-880-2754 tried to provide me with another 30 days of service for free, 5 times. I insisted on a cancellation and a refund of my $49.95 and nothing else. He went through a series of questions (verifying my account info) then gave me a confirmation number then began to talk about more free offers. To be sure I was understood I said, "Lets start over. I'm <name>. I never made use of your services. I was not told about addition charges. I want to cancel. I want my $49.95 refunded. I don't want any additional offers or take any surveys or answer any additional questions." He took me through the cancellation again and gave me the exact same number. I wait to see what happens next.
