I fell off of a low roof at work and hurt my arm. It felt broke, but I thought maybe I could tough it out and it would be okay. It started turning black and blue and hurt badly to move it. I waited until around 10 p.m. before I decided it was time to go to the emergency room. Once I arrived I was told to wait in the lobby. I thought that was strange. But I waited in there with lots of pain for three hours before the nurse told me to go back there. I was asked if I had a fever or felt sick to my stomach. I told the nurse I don't think so. She then put a themometer in my mouth. I kept telling her it was my arm, and showed her the cut. She then went out of the room. She came back about 15 minutes later. Once again I was in agony. The doctor then came in and asked me what the problem was. I told him that my arm was possibly broke. He said I see. Then he asked me if I had a history of mental illness which I thought was very strange. I told him no, and what the hell does that have to do with my hurt arm! I waited in the lobby for three d**n hours and no one gave a d**n that I was in pain. He just wrote on some tablet and said uhh hmm. Okay, wait right here and then we'll send you to the x-ray room. I waited once agin for about 15 minutes. I was in so much pain! The doctor didn't even ask if I wanted some pain medication!! They came back and told me to follow him to the x-ray room and the nurse will take care of me from there. The nurse told me to place my arm on the plate and move it in several directions and I was already in pain but this made it worse!! I asked her if I could have some pain medication and she said, Oh, I thought you already got some. I told her I didn't and she said sure after we're finished here. Once we were done, she gave me some pain medication and wrapped my arm in a a sling and told me I'd have to come back some other time to get a cast put on. She took a look at my cut and put some alcohol on it and then bandaged that up also. She said okay wait here. Then about 15 minutes later another nurse came in and asked me if I had been taken care of yet, and I said yeah. She said okay then you need to go, we need to make room for other patients. I was so mad I could've punched that b***h in the mouth!

When I got the bill, it came to $2,532 just for an x-ray and some bandages not mention a huge waste of my precious time!! I told them I wasn't going to pay because of the way I was treated and that I thought it was a huge rip off!! They told me that they would have to garnish my wages to get the bill paid. I told them fine!!

Duncan Regional is not a professional hospital and the nurses and doctors who work there only care about the money. If you don't have money then you're treated like crap!! They didn't care that I was in pain and had to wait more than three hours and they didn't care that I didn't get any pain medication!!

I've heard stories about how some people who are near death or had accidents mysteriously die when they go to get treated there. They aren't dead when they arrive and are talking and just fine and then later the family members get the phone call. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a deal going with funeral directors and get a cut after someone dies. If you ask me an investigation needs to be launched into the questionable activities that go on in this hospital.

If you get hurt and don't have much money, you're better off going to another hospital, one that actually has the decency to treat people with respect!

- If this occured at work then this falls under Workers Compensation which by law your employer is required to have in all but a very..very limted set of circumstances.  So you need to find out how you file a Workers Comp claim.  I don't know if it is too late now(probably not) but it would have probably been better if you reported it when it happened.

Oh and it is illegal for an employer to fire you because of a claim, in many States if that happens you could actually be entitled to be paid for damages from your employer.

On the flip side, if you are caught filing a fraudlent claim, you could be charged and sent away to prision with a heavy fine.

It felt broke, but I thought maybe I could tough it out and it would be okay.

- Well aren't you "Mr. Tough Guy".   You have an arm which could be broken and you figure..heck it will just heal on it's own.  Who cares if it starts to heal with a 45 degree angle.

Once I arrived I was told to wait in the lobby. I thought that was strange.

- Why did you think it was strange?  An ER takes people on a priority basis based on their injury.  You had an accident several hours before, were able to get to the ER on your own, and yes while in pain you were apparently suffering from nothing life threatning and stable.  Had you wanted to be seen immediatly you could have called 9-1-1 and requested an ambulance..of course that would probably have been another $1000.

I was asked if I had a fever or felt sick to my stomach. I told the nurse I don't think so. She then put a themometer in my mouth

- Standard Triage Procedure.

Then he asked me if I had a history of mental illness which I thought was very strange. I told him no, and what the hell does that have to do with my hurt arm

- Again Standard Questions..nothing out of the ordinary.  One might say this "uncaring attitude" was probably all in your mind.

I'd have to come back some other time to get a cast put on

- How about posting your discharge orders which state this..of course with your personal information blacked out.

They aren't dead when they arrive and are talking and just fine and then later the family members get the phone call. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a deal going with funeral directors and get a cut after

someone dies

- Let's look at this statement shall we.

"They aren't dead when they arrive".  Well that is correct, if they were already dead they would go to the Morgue.

"and are talking and just fine".  If they are just fine...what are they doing being taken to the ER?

"if they have a deal going with funeral directors" - And what proof do you have of this?
