Owner/commisioner Michael Allsbrook of East Coast Officials , Virginia Beach, Virginia(umpire association) had our 12 year old baseball team pay him $700.00 to send an Umpire to Cooperstown Dreamspark in July of 2007 our Red Sox week to attend their very famous tournament. This is a week long event, huge in the baseball world. Each team brings an umpire to umpire the games for the week. They get free meals and stay for the week. Mr. Allsbrook cashed our VB Red Sox team check of $700.00 two days before our starting date at Cooperstown. He registered one of the umpires from his East Coast business in Virginia Beach in Cooperstown for us by FAX. However, the day we arrived in Cooperstown, we received a call from a parent on our team stating Mr Allsbrook had contacted her and told her that our umpire had been in a car accident via transit to Cooperstown, and he would not be attending.

We returned from our week to Cooperstown and Mr. Allsbrook contacted us several times stating he would refund our $700.00. (money our boys raised from car washes, candle sales etc.) Each month he had a different excuse as to why he could not yet refund our money. Some excuses included, death in his family, a couple of those, a few weddings, a family illness, a business matter, financial problems, it went on and on. In the meantime, we continued to play ball at different venues. At one particular baseball game , we started conversation with an umpire that recognized our team name. He informed us that he was in fact the umpire that was to attend Cooperstown Dreamspark with us, and that he had never been in any Car accident. He was informed by his Commissioner, Michael Allsbrook, that we no longer needed his services in cooperstown, and he was told by Allsbrook, we did not have the money to pay him and he did not need to attend for our team. So, it was confirmed that Mr Allsbrook never intended to send an umpire for us at all. He only intended to take our $700.00 and he thought he had a great scam. However, I was suspicious right away for some reason, so I pursued him right away to get my boys team money back. The umpire we spoke with also informed us that the Commissioner of East coast Officials, umpires association had also done similar scams to other childrens baseball Teams. Many many people had eventually caught on and were very upset at being scammed or should I say RIPPED OFF!!!! Ripping off boys baseball teams is Pretty Low!! Especially a commissioner/owner of an Umpires Association. I have several emails on file I have saved from Mr Allsbrook, stating that he owes this money to us. BEWARE!! Boys Baseball Clubs!!!

I too have been a victim of East Coast Officials. I along with MANY MANY other officials have performed services calling games and have yet to paid. We are discucssing as a group what legal options we have pertaining to this. Bottom line most of us will not call games under their banner and are looking at the leagues to have to pay us for the service performed and they inturne will have to sue Allsbrook for the money lost by paying twice for the same events.
