WARNING !!! to anyone interested in doing business with Evans Glass! They have been known as being a very unethical company throughout the window industry for many years, though they frequently and repeatedly tell new-hires and clients alike that they have "improved" and no longer deserve that description. They lie. Constantly. To their employees and to their customers.

As an employee, they do NOT pay the commissions owed for 2 months or longer, regardless of what they say when you are hired, and can take up to 6 months. When you ask for a draw/advance, the standard line is that "you don't have any jobs that you can be paid on", or "your jobs have cancelled", when in fact they intentionally withhold your paycheck because they are using that income to purchase other peoples' product with it and paying you only after your jobs have been installed. When I called my customers, I confirmed that they did not cancel their orders and were scheduled to be installed as ordered. But, I was told those "lines" and was not paid. Other sales reps (10 that I talked to) confirmed the same stories/lines when I asked around.

After doing some research, I ran the companies credit report and discovered that they have a 2.5 million dollar open line of credit for purchasing and building windows with. (5/28/2007) They have a zero balance! That means that they are using cash to purchase product. Where are they getting the cash? From employees selling windows of course... and not getting paid! They are using the payroll funds to finance the product orders and are therefore saving themselves hundreds of thousands of dollars a year by not having to pay finance fees on their open lines of credit. All on the backs of their employees... who are scraping to get gas money to be able to go to their appointments, and are losing their credit ratings due to inability to pay their bills or incurring late payments and additional fees as a result.

The company credit risk is at 30%, which is high for a "32 Million Dollar Company". The only other credit on their credit report was a $32,000 dollar line with $5,900 past due. This is the credit line that they are using to lease new office space for an additional branch in Federal Way, WA.

They can fire employees for ANY reason, and do! If you threaten Robert Jonas, who is the "National Sales Manager", by knowing a lot about the sales process, possibly as much or more than he does, or if you might make him look bad, you WILL be fired! He calls himself Dr. Jonas, as he supposedly has licensing in psychology. Truth is... he was a Psychologist years ago, but never a Doctor. Psychiatrist's have the title of Dr.; not psychologist's. Also, a small but important fact... Mr. Jonas was stripped of his certificate/licensure and ability to practice psychology years ago due to inappropriate conduct and familiarity with a client... (who happened to be female). He had to get special permission from his parole officer before he could attend the top 10 sales rep's all-expense-paid company vacation in Jamaica while he was employed at Sears many years ago. Yet, even after all these years, he still claims to be a Doctor, though he never was. As far as being a sales manager and trainer, the guy can't even give credit to true sales professionals like Tom Hopkins or Zig Ziglar and takes their 'closes' and techniques and trys to tell people that they're his creation. He is a true narcissist!!!

There are three other Big Wigs that own and operate Evans Glass. Larry Bower and Paul Walters, who are the owners, and Matt Flatt who is the General Manager. They like to tell people that Evans Glass has been around for 31 years. Well, maybe the name has been used that long... but these "good ol' Boys" have only owned it for 6 years. They NEVER did commercial projects and all of the Company Story information that is told to home owners is a crock of crap... except that aluminum really has been banned since '92. Matt Flatt is the bobble head in charge who helps to fabricate and implement all of the "take advantage of you while you wait" policies. These four "Top Dogs" are very un-affectionatley known at the 4 Stooges of Evans Glass. Corporate sharks at their finest.

Oh Yeah, Potential clients, the big project photo's aren't theirs or anything else. The PPG rebate amount is just another way of trying to increase the value of their window and lower the price, so it looks like you're getting a DEAL by buying it. Just like the volume discount, the corporate pricing, the sign in your yard and the before and after photo's... all designed to make you think that you're getting a deal. Truth is, they can go several hundred to about $2000 under 'house cost' and still make bank. Hold out for the second visit... you'll save an additional 10%, and if you counter offer at the end... you could save even more. But it means you'll have to play hard ball with the second rep, because they're typically sales managers or senior reps. Make sure they call the office in your earshot to get "special permission" to do your deal, if you still want to do it.

Are you getting the point yet??? They capitalize in RIPPP OFFFF!!! to anyone who does business with them, or for them.

Oh yeah, one last thing... their installation. They take a saw's all and cut the aluminum window away from the nailing flange, thereby leaving a very conductive and sweating instrument inside the wall of your house to continue water damage and dry rot potential. Then they take a come-along with clamps on each end and collapse the wluminum frame by pulling on opposite directions. There is tremendous potential for wall damage and trim damage when the come-along loses tension by losing grip or the frame collapsing. Evans Glass won't cover the damage they cause...

Also, the gas is a mixture of Argon, and Krypton... not just Krypton. Argon breaks down naturally on it's own after ten years, and no one can stop it... (factual!) so beware. There goes your warranty!!!!

Yep! That's professional!! So, Get a number, get in line and let's all feel good about Evans Glass!!

Thanks for reading this, and good luck with your employment search or window research...

I had thought about applying for a sales rep position at this outfit, but having read your account, I won't bother wasting my time. I can sell ice to Eskimos even today, but I won't deal with corrupt management. No wonder they can't find reliable sales people.

[quote] Thank you for this post I want to thank you for this post. It tells me more than anything else about this company. The fact that a couple of disgruntled employee's are whining about pay generally tells me they didn't do there job and earn there money or they were just sitting around trying to collect base pay and got upset when they got fired. Don't know your circumstance and really don't care. Being a store manager I see this all the time. Give me my 60 grand a year but I don't want to earn it. Thank you for this post I want to thank you for this post. What has impressed me is the number of people that have come to defend thier company. You can find complaints on this forum about every employer in the country. But not all of them have employess that are defending there company. For example one of the employers I have been looking at this month is ADT security I am finding complaints after compaint but thier are very few employees defending thier company. The fact no one is defending it makes me think there are validity's to the claims. The fact that they are more employees defending evans tells me that more often than not people are happy overall with the company. And Based on this and other research I have done this evening. I am hopping my interview with Soren tomorrow will land me a position with Evans. My parents are purchasing windows from them. And are quite pleased with the sales process of evans and the product quality. They didn't use any High pressure tactics or what I like to call the used car salesmen syndrome So for those employees that have come forward and defended evans thank you. That is a company I want to work for. Thank you for your Michael from Olympia [quote] I find it hard to believe that just ANY CONSUMER (or employee) WOULD CHOOSE TO BE HIRED BY EVANS GLASS AFTER HEARING 1 COMPLAINT MUCH LESS A NUMBER OF THEM about a company. I am not talking from just 1 area but both Washington and Oregon, and not only from 1 unhappy employee but a number of them. If there was only 1 glass company why would you only work for the 1 bad one if you had info telling you this is not a reputable business to work for?? I find this hard to believe this is just any consumer/employee defending the company they work for or one they want to be a part of. Well I am here to say after 10 or more weeks working for this company out of the Oregon City office there is something wrong with the turnover rate when 90 out of 100 leave for any number of reasons. I for one got tired of hearing that the pipeline to your money was going to start over and over each week after you just got a sub-living size pay check on the very same day of the meeting on Friday to pay your bills and with the rising fuel costs to do business for Evans Glass the following week. Let me ask you this, "If you get your commission check paid to you always ending with even numbers being zero's that tell me this is a draw not commissions and if the money pipeline was to actually start in 4 to 5 weeks as told to you how come they are always even numbers? Commissions come with numbers ending in odd numbers like $1522.95 not $1500.00. When the numbers come to you even they are a non-calculated draw amount not a commission amount. After 10 weeks working for Evans Glass and the pipeline to the front and the back end of your deals is there how is it possible to get even commission checks every week? DRAW ONLY . THAT'S HOW!!!! When I was hired at Evans Glass in Oregon City they kept saying this was a career position. Well, lets me see if I can think out loud here, "a career position in my mind pays more than minimum wage I think?" A career position, You get paid the $$$'s you earned." "A career position is a job you get paid regularly that you can count on to pay bills and support you loved ones and meet you obligations." "A career position makes you feel secure in your job and career?" "A career position lets you see and feel there is a future for you and a home to come to each day at work." "A career position makes you feel not doubt you have a job every day that you do not feel taken advantage of." "A career position on a job means the people you hired on with are still there too because they were the best in the class and you expect them to stay around and wonder where they have gone and then you hear lies from management about what happened to them and why they have left Evans Glass so soon?" "Career positions offer benefits." "Career positions you and your associates are on the job for years and there is not one person working in the Oregon City Branch (can not speak for Washington offices) there that have been there for years including all the managers."Career positions do not have interruptions in the work place like the issues now going on with money and pay. [Quote by Michelle from Olympia] The fact that a couple of disgruntled employee's are whining about pay generally tells me they didn't do there job and earn there money or they were just sitting around trying to collect base pay and got upset when they got fired. [Quote by Michelle from Olympia] Just for the record .... There is NO BASE PAY!!! It's all straight commission!! There is no sitting around the office other than there mandatory meetings!! By the way there are only a few, How do you mean that? A few is 1 or 2 but I can think of more than 10 without trying hard. Some companies never have problems like this and here is Evans Glass that has many issues and all with money shorting their employees of it. I feel sorry for all the employees of Evans Glass trying to earn a living and support their families. There are over 300+ employees with Evans Glass. Some of them have been there for years. Many sales reps have been for years as well. If they were not getting paid there commissions due to them do you think they would still be working here. It is so easy for someone to put the blame on someone else for not succeeding at a company. Its sad really. Its to bad one or two bad apples are trying to ruin it for 300+ employees that depend on Evans Glass to support their families. I read these letters posted from ex-employees and it saddens me. Evans Glass helps hundreds of customers solve there energy needs with window replacements every month. Yet you rarely see a complaint from a customer about paying to much or the windows were installed poorly. These are the real complaints you should be looking for. You will hardly ever see them because Evans glass does good work at a fair price. Evans glass takes care of there customers and there employees. For every negative comment made About Evans Glass on this website I can probably get 80 positive responses from current employees of the company. So for all the ex-employees who did not make a career at Evans Glass. I truly am sorry It did not work out for you. I wish you the best of luck at the next company you work for. They are a terrible company to work for! I applied for a sales position for Evans Glass in June 2007. Their ad promised a minimum of $60,000 to $120,000/yr. which was a lie. I was told the job would be 40-50 hours a week which was a lie they required us to work 6 days a week and the hours were 100+ per week. I was hired and started the training class on the next Monday. There were 12 people in our 1 week training class within 2 weeks this number had dropped down to 2 people. They have an EXTREMELY high turnover rate because they lie about the amount of money to be made, days and hours you have to work, not getting paid in a timely manner, etc. I started the training class on June 18th. We were to be paid $250/week for the first four weeks. These checks were NOT paid in a timely manner they were held for weeks and even months. Also, I was injured on the job. I have been on Worker's Comp since the accident. I went into work as required on three separate occasions. On the first two Robert sent me home, stating he had to get more info from the Worker's comp carrier. On the last time, I went in he informed me that I was fired because I did not show up to work the previous day. I explained to him that he was illegally requiring me to do work items that my doctor had stated that I could not do - he had seen the signed doctor's order, and I had to get the doctor's authorization that day. He told me he didn't care and to get out. It is my understanding that a worker must be paid within 7 days of dismissal. It has been 14 days, and I still do not have my final paychecks as required by law. I have filed a formal complaint with the Oregon and State Wage & Hour Board as well as the Worker's Comp Board. I have also hired an attorney. Don't work for this company or you will be sorry!

At some of the rebuttals written by current employees of Evans Glass. Especially the ones in which they extol the virtues of their "professional installations and installers." I would like to invite any current employees of Evans Glass to come out to my place and see what Evans' "professional installers" did to my house. I'll gladly show you the left over pieces of aluminum window frame still in my house, the large one and one-half inch caulk filled gaps between window frame and house siding and the daylight showing through between the window frame and wall stud. Then I would ask each of you one simple question: If this was your house would you truly be satisfied?

Work harder at work rather than blaming others for your laziness. I will argue the claim that as an employee, they do NOT pay the commissions owed for 2 months or longer, regardless of what they say when you are hired, and can take up to 6 months. I have never had problems with my paycheck.

Evans Glass Always Told Me the TRUTH

#14UPDATE Employee

Tue, August 28, 2007

From the first day that I came to work for Evans Glass I have always been told the truth. I am a manager for Evans Glass and have never been told or told a customer that they have improved and no longer deserve the description as being unethical. I have been paid the front halves of all my deals on a timely basis. The statement regarding unpaid advances is unfounded. I needed an advance, and was paid it based on the jobs that I had pending. Maybe this rep had a job cancel. The company is solvent. They don't do it on the backs of their employees. If you can't close, you can't close, they are not ripping customers or employees off as claims have stated. I come from the construction industry and using a saw to remove the aluminum frame is common place. The company does not damage the wall or trim and would take care of the customer if such damage would occur. As for claiming to know the chemical make-up of the gas used this is not what we train our employees about the windows. We train them with the knowledge that we have on Argon/Krypton mixture and we absolutely tell our customers that the gas will not leak out.

I've Never Heard Evans Glass as "unethical"

#15UPDATE Employee

Tue, August 28, 2007

I've never heard Evans Glass is unethical and has not been my experience as an employee. It is a lie that as an employee, they do NOT pay the commissions owed for 2 months or longer, regardless of what they say when you are hired, and can take up to 6 months. I get paid as expected and explained to me when I am hired. The claim that they take a saw's all and cut the aluminum window away from the nailing flange, thereby leaving a very conductive and sweating instrument inside the wall of your house to continue water damage and dry rot potential. We have great installers and do great installations! We back our products with the best lifetime warranty that I know of. It is a pleasure to work for Evans Glass. I am well treated along with all of our customers and it is untrue that they lie to either their employees or customers.

Evans Glass Does NOT lie!

#17UPDATE Employee

Fri, August 24, 2007

It is untrue that Evans Glass has been known as being a very unethical company throughout the window industry for many years. They don't lie to their employees or to their customers. In my two years with Evans Glass, I have found them to be an extraordinarily straight-up, by the book, ethical company. The company would certainly not have earned the success that they have over the last 2-3 years if their conduct was otherwise. What has been said in the forgoing simply does not wash.

Rebuttal to current employees "praise" for Evans Glass

#18Author of original report

Fri, August 24, 2007

First of all, let me make you aware of the fact that it is well known within the window industry that Robert Jonas, the narcissist "Sales Trainer" for Evans Glass, has issued an order to current employees who value their jobs and wish to remain employeed that it is "their DUTY" to refute my original rip off report. An indirect threat of termination, if you will... After Larry Brewer attempted to buy my silence and agreement to retract the original rip off report, and I refused, orders were sent to Matt Flath and Robert Jonas to barage this site with rebuttals by current employees to dissuade other "disgruntled employees" and potential clients from truly being heard. In other words, their hopes were that mere numbers of "positive" entries alone would silence the critics. Be aware... the vast number of employees who have not been paid, and were/are being taken advantage of will not disappear as long as the same practices are continued by this company. Each and every office of Evans Glass has a veritable revolving door of bodies of employees who come and go weekly, mostly because they are not being paid as promised. Evans Glass has a terrible reputation in the fenestration industry and is frequently mocked by many other window companies as the example of how NOT to do business. If there are satisfied employees within the company, then I am very happy for all of you. You are truly the exception to the rule. Please remain where you are. However, to those employees who have been taken advantage of and have suffered hardships at the hand of this employer and who have not been paid as promised, let them speak up and be heard. They have not attacked you personally, nor have I. Let the truth be heard... and let others make up their own minds. Evans Glass BETTERED the life of my FAMILY

#19UPDATE Employee

Fri, August 24, 2007

I have worked for Evans Glass for 3 years. This company has bettered the life of my family and I more than any other entity in this world. In 3 years I have bought my 1st house, 1st new car, and I have never once had one missing dime from payroll. Arguing the claim that when you ask for a draw/advance, the standard line is that you don't have any jobs that you can be paid on, or your jobs have cancelled, when in fact they intentionally withhold your paycheck because they are using that income to purchase other peoples product with it and payin you only after your jobs have been installed. I can get a draw anytime I want. As for the allegations that the company uses payroll funds to finance the product orders, salesmen don't make that much money. I have had 3 years of happy custermers and a very happy me. The claim that they take a saw's all and cut the aluminum window away from the nailing flange, thereby leaving a very conductive and sweating instrument inside the wall of your housle to continue water damnage and dry rot potential. I was a contractor for 9 years prior to Evans. The installers are some of the best workers I have ever seen in construction. Also in defense to the claim that Argon breaks down naturally on it's own after ten years, and no one can stop it. The gas mixture is 80% Krypton to 20% Argon which is best desity. The seal determindes how long the gas lasts. I wish people knew what they were talking about. -Soren

The need for improvement in ethical behavior for Evans Glass has been slight at best. As far as any window company or company in general, Evans Glass leads in behavior that in both professional and appropriate. Arguing the claim that when you ask for a draw/advance, the standard line is that you don't have any jobs that you can be paid on or your jobs have cancelled, when in fact they intentionally withhold your paycheck because they are using the income to purchase other peoples product with it and paying you only after your jobs have been installed. Matt Flath went out of his way to help me get an advance for just over $1000.00 to meet my bills and needs. The claim that they take a saw's all and cut the aluminum window away from the nailing flange, thereby leaving a very conductive and sweating instrument inside the wall of your house to continue water damage and dry rot potential. My customers love the way their windows look, yeah it is heavy construction and there are some broken nails and duck of course. In the end when alls said and done there fantastic. As for the comment on the Argon and Krypton gas mix it works great. It's a great value. Working at Evans Glass is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Thank you Paul, Larry, Matt and Robert

Evans Glass Takes GREAT care of thir Customers AND Employee's

#21UPDATE Employee

Fri, August 24, 2007

Evans Glass has always and will always be a customer service orientated company. It is very refreshing to work for a company that takes care of their customers with such vigilance. In response to the claim the Evans Glass uses cash from employees selling windows and not getting paid! They are using the payroll funds to finance the product orders and are therefore saving themselves hundreds of thousand of dollars a year by not having to pay finance fees on their open lines of credit. Evans Glass is a straight cash company and has never needed to use employee's revenues to run the business. Claims that there is tremendous potential for wall damages and trim damage and that Evans Glass won't cover the damage they cause is bogus. When it comes to installs, our installers are professionals. Do you know what makes a professional? The fact they you have been doing it so long that you have made every mistake possible and learned from everyone, as to not repeat them.

Evans Glass Excellent Employer

#24UPDATE Employee

Fri, August 24, 2007

My experience with Evans Glass as a rep has been nothing but a positive experience. I have always been treated fairly and honestly and everyone has been up front with me at every level. There is no truth in the claim that they lie constantly to their employees and to their customers. It seems to be this person is a disgruntled individual to say the least. Not only that, if half the things they say said were true this company would certainly be having major issues in the sales area. Quite to the contrary all I have seen is a tremendous amount of growth in all areas of the company, especially sales. Jealousy and insecurity, and very low self-esteem seem to be the overriding theme in the rant. Just reading this gives you a pretty good insight on the type of character this person has. Resorting to personal attacks on anyone is always the last ditch effort on the part of the insecure incompetent or ignorant. This person seems to fit into all three of these categories.

#25UPDATE Employee

Fri, August 24, 2007

The statement that Evans Glass has been known as being a very unethical company throughout the window industry for many years is entirely untrue. I have never had a customer or anyone else for that matter tell me they have heard Evans Glass is an unethical company. The testimonial that as an employee, they do NOT pay the commissions owed for 2 months or longer, regardless of what they say when you are hired, and can take up to 6 months is also false. In my experience (1 years with company) I have typically received the front half of my commissions 3-4 weeks after a sale, and the back half 6-8 weeks later once the installation was complete. The rare instances of paperwork problems or alternate financing have been the only things that have delayed payment. Claimants claim to have run the companies credit report and discovered that they have a 2.5 million dollar open line of credit for purchasing and building windows with but have a zero balance. This does not mean that they are using the payroll funds to finance the product orders by trying to avoid finance fees on their open lines of credit. Anyone can pull a credit report and make assumptions. In my opinion as a philosophy student, your argument does not necessarily hold up. Your premises do not support your conclusion. To any potential customers please don't let one disgruntled ex-employee make your decision for you. Use your own reasoning and gather the information and make up your own mind. As for the installation of the windows and Evans Glass not covering the damage, what was the number of the contractor who does? At least we tell people in writing we're not responsible, unlike most contractors who verbally promise and then charge extra for repairs at the end. They also allege to have knowledge that the gas used in a mixture of Argon and Krypton and that Argon breaks down naturally on it's own after ten years, and that no once can stop it. I have never seen scientific evidence to support this claim. It seems to defy the law of physics, but I am not a scientist. As far as claming the warranty is no longer valid, the warranty is performance lifetime transferable? How does that mean your warranty is gone? People in general are smart and won't let the desperate ranting of a maligned ex-employee affect frequently and probably had poor paperwork. These habits would create a delay in pay on commission. I can honestly say that in my 15 months with the company, if I've done MY job, Evans Glass has done theirs. Any delay in payment has been my fault, and every penny I have been owed has been paid, and I have never had a problem getting an advance if needed.

#30UPDATE Employee

Wed, August 22, 2007

I have been with Evans Glass for over 2 1/2 years and i have never had a problem with my pay. As for the statement that as an employee, they do NOT pay the commissions owed for 2 months or longer, regardless of what they say when you are hired, and can take up to 6 months. I have never had a problem. It is un-true that the installation of the window causes any wall or trip damage. Evans Glass has been a rewarding job to me and has broadened by horizons. Since Robert Jonas has been with the company, my income has doubled because of the abundance of trainging he has given us.

Your Report validated and was the catalyst for the Report I filed. I too was on the receiving end of Evans Glass deceitful business practices. I have since done a lot of homework and collected many points of proof verifying what I suspected; that most things I was told were simply not true. When I came to them to resolve my issues as directed in the contract, I too received the wrath of Dr?. Robert Jonas; I was fired. My experience of not getting paid was similar or worst ( i.e. HOW MUCH I LOST VERSUS YOUR EXPERIENCE? ). It really is SICK how they treat people; they obviously prey on employee and customer alike. It is unfortunate, although not unexpected to hear that others had the same experience.
