Express Scripts (working With Partners Medicare Choice) advises that, as our HMO, they require us to purchase prescription drugs through Express Scripts Inc under the Medicare program.

Partners of NC is my HMO (Partners Medicare Choice). They require that, under the Medicare prescription program, I use Express Scripts (now being sued by the State of New York) to buy prescription drugs undr Medicare.

Express Scripts quotes prices, then , upon receipt of invoice I discover they add a $45 copay for 90 pills, $15 per 30 days. I believe this is an illegal force requirement under the Federal Medicare program.

Ok, coming from someone who deals with this every day, there are two things wrong with your report. First, Express Scripts is the pharmacy not your plan. The pharmacy does not just pick any number out of the clear blue and decide that is how much they want to charge you. Your plan sets copay amounts based on the coverage you select when you sign up for your plan. The copay is the portion of the drug cost that the patient is responsible for. The plan picks up the rest of the cost. Medicare is what is called an externally adjudicated plan meaning that Express Scripts operates solely as a pharmacy for your plan and we do not have access to your copay costs until our pharmacists actually run the claim through your plan. We would not be able to qoute you an estimate. Who ever you talked to that gave you that qoute was a complete idiot and I am sorry to say that it does not surprise me a bit that you got an idiot on the phone that gave you wrong information. As far as your copays go, call up your plan and they will be able to tell you why they are that much.
