My husband took our car to fair muffler for service. We had to get our muffler fixed and wanted a tune-up. Sound simple enough right? Wrong.

The day he dropped our car off nothing else was wrong with our car. A day or so past and the manger called and let us know that we could come and pick our car up, and that it was ready. We paid for service($395.00)and left. On the way home we notice that the car wasn't driving right. It wouldn't excel and was jumping. So when we got home we called fair muffler and let them know how the car was driving. So the manager told us to bring the car back to check out what was wrong. So my husband took the car back. When he got there, the manager look at it and said it was a loose spark plug. And that all he had to do was tightin them. While standing there my husband and his friend noticed that, the mechanic tightin our spark plugs with his hands.

They thought that was very odd. After tightin our spark plugs they sent him on his merry way. The next day while my hubby was driving the car,it cut off on him. So we had to get our car towed back to fair muffler. The next morning adam the manager called to let us know that, the raditor was cracked. And that our car was like that when we bought it in. We couldn't believe our ears.

We just put a brand new engine and raditor in our car a year and a half ago. And now fair muffler is telling us, it was like that when we bought our car in for service. "B*LLSH**"!

We got in contact with the owner of that fair muffler. To let him know what was going on. Mr Gary Hamilton was very rude and disrespectful to us. Telling us that they had nothing to do with cracking our raditor and that we were trying to scam him out of money. And that he wasn't giving us any money back. I ask him what was the purpose of putting a tune-up on a car with a cracked raditor, that it was useless and a waste of my money. He couln't answer that for me.

I let him know that I was calling the better business bureau, he laughed and hung up on me. So I filed a complaint with BBB. Now I know why he laughed at me ,when I said the BBB. The BBB received my complaint. They sent me a letter stating, They tried to resolve it in the best possible way. Unfortunately, they cannot be of further assistance to me in this matter. When I read that, I laughed. They did nothing to help me at all, The BBB is a joke. There not there for consumers, but for businesses like Unfair muffler.

First, let me say I am sorry for the late response, I just came across the complaint today. As far as the situation described by Nicola, let me explain further. We are mainly an undercar speciality shop that does some minor engine work. When the customer inquired about a "tune-up" on the vehicle, we did a very basic inspection on the engine. We informed the custoemr that the vehicle did indead need spark plugs and spark plug wires, but there may be some other engine problems that we would be unable to diagnose and/or repair (the vehicle was running poorly when brought in). The customer agree to go ahead with the work. As far as the "loose spark plug", it was infact a loose spark plug WIRE which ofcorse is installed by hand (no tools required). This occasionally happens (spark plug wires don't always stay on, even when "clicked" in place), which we appologized for and promptly fixed. All of the other "problems" that Nicola complained about ended up being from a bad cylinder head gasket, and other internal engine damage. Once again, we had warned the customers that there maybe addition engine work required that we may not be able to perform. Nicola in fact took us to small claims court where she lost her case. The reason stated by the ruling magistrate were that our work did not create the engine damage, or cause it to get worse. We certainly appoligize for not discovering the addition engine problems, but like I have stated twice before; we are not a full service engine shop and Nicola was warned about this before any work was performed on her vehicle.
