       Fat Wallet = Fraud Wallet

Recently, Fat Wallet (fatwallet.com) was part of a scam with Hotels.com. People could get a certain percentage of cash back for purchases at Hotels.com by clicking through Fat Wallet's website. However, Hotels.com would raise the prices for those clicking through Fat Wallet by the same percentage as the cashback.  Fat Wallet made their money from the sales while the members got the shaft. When one Fat Wallet member discovered this scam, he posted a message on one of the Fat Wallet forums, which you can see here -

All Fat Wallet did in response was to say they told Hotels.com to stop doing this. You see, Fat Wallet is too greedy to do what is right. They did not want to ban Hotels.com from the site because they would lose money. They also did not want to pay the members who were ripped off by reimbursing them for the amount of extra money they paid to Hotels.com.

There was a huge outrage by the members and the exchange of messages between Fat Wallet staff and the members dragged on for weeks. Only after numerous complaints by the members, did Fat Wallet decide to pay the members the money they were ripped off. That's right. Fat Wallet didn't do what was right until they were forced to by the members. However, it didn't end there. Fat Wallet's reputation for honesty and legitimacy was pretty well shot after this scam.

Fat Wallet could no longer be trusted, so in an effort to do damage control, they started removing member's message postings about this scam. They even went so far as to ban members who posted anything negative in regards to how they handled this scam. They would not ban Hotels.com for ripping off their member, but they banned members who had anything negative to say about it. That certainly isn't something a company with nothing to hide would do.

So, when you go to Fat Wallet.com, remember this scam they were involved in, their refusal to ban Hotels.com, their refusal to pay members back until forced to do so, and the banning of members who posted anything negative about Fat Wallet's handling of this scam.

There are plenty of other legitimate sites that offer cashback without ripping off their members such as Ebates.com and Bing.com. There are also legitimate deal sites like SlickDeals.net and Retailmenot.com. Please use a site other than FatWallet.com for cashback and deals. Fat Wallet's need to censor and ban their members just shows how untrustworthy and dishonest they really are. You've been warned!

Update:

The cashback scams at FatWallet.com continue. The latest one involves Butterfly Photo.

It is the same scam as Hotels.com. The customer finds the price of a camera he wants for $489 at Butterfly Photo's website. He then goes through Fatwallet.com to get 2% cashback but now finds the price of the camera is 2% higher at $498. After the 2% cashback, he pays the same price as if he never went through Fatwallet.com. Fatwallet makes a commission on this while the member again gets the shaft.
