If you ever think to buy home buyers insurence-please don't!!! I needed to replace the air conditioner but could not do it without replacing a heater. I was explained that the new unit will not match to the old heater even though my heater was working fine. The insurence would only pay for the air unit which is approximately $1,400, but a heater is $3,300 and i would have to pay it out of my pocket. The customer service is totally unprofessional, and does not care. For two weeks i was on the phone with them making sure things are being done and begging to find another contractor who would do it faster. We are in Los Angeles, it's 105 degrees outside and i have a child and a 67 year old mother, i lost my sleep and could not stay focused at work (i am a doctor).

Four days prior to the scheduled date they told me i could get cash out and be on my own but need to pay 20% restocking fee. The person on the phone was unable to tell me what exactly 20% was without canceling my appointment and getting an approval from her supervisor (??? for what). At this point i am not done yet and still waiting for the date and in the meantime my unit is working as a fan. I wonder about the electrical bill?! The bottom line is - without the insurence i would've paid only a little more (comparing with the whole price) and slept well and had my unit there several weeks ago!

well, why should we pay for an entire system when only half of it is broken? in your first year there is a lot of scrutiny.

You should readabout title 24 or ask the technician or your warranty about this. all hvac manufacturers are reuqired by this law in CA to stop making 10 seer a/c units. they are making 13 seer units. if your a/c needs to be replaced and is is old(10seer) and you have a split system(heater also) cannot install new 13 seer to old 10 seer unit... duct work system cannot hanlde this. this may help you understand why they are taking so long with the purchase of equipment and why you need a new furnance......just more info
