First American Home Buyers Protection Corporation ripoff, deceitful advertising, weaseled out of responsibility, out of integrity, incompetent, horrible attitude, terrible customer service, hires unprofessional subcontractors. Van Nuys California
My wife & I recently purchased a home in Sedona, Arizona. The local real estate firm recommended that we purchase a home warranty insurance policy from First American Home Buyers Protection Corporation. The First American brochure looked great, it listed all of the things covered by the policy, including toilet bowl and dishwasher.
Then we tried to use the insurance coverage, twice. Once for a cracked/leaking toilet bowl and once for a dishwasher that will not pump out water. Both items had gone undetected during the home inspection, yet both were denied coverage under the excuse as pre-existing or not normal wear & tear, WHICH IS CODE FOR WEASEL CLAUSE. In a house that is 26 years old, what is there that would not be pre-existing?
We also had the experience of having to deal with a First American selected plumber, who was in my opinion, an angry, hateful person who was only there to prejudge the circumstance so he could justify the decline of coverage. (He was also afraid to have a telephone conversation with his office in my presence.) Add to that the First American stone walling customer service department and we were left with paying for the repairs ourselves. I would not wish this experience on anyone. In my opinion they should be called Last American Home Buyers Protection.
