I just wanted to inform people of the Ripp Off scam going on at First Consumers National Bank. I am a young woman trying to re-establish my credit so in order to do that I had to send them a $100. deposit for the credit card from which they took about $30. in fees right off top. Now I know this sounds like a waste of time, but when you're trying to re-establish your credit you would basically do anything, and plus I was thinking that it wouldn't be all that bad. Well I was wrong!!!! After using the card once my balance was down to zero and I had to pay the balance on the card which I found to be ridiculous because the card was basically an ATM card from them, because if I didn't put any money on the card I wouldn't have anything to spend. Well it's gets better. After that I let it go and called the Credit card people to cancel the card. Well now I owe them $850. in late fees (because they didn't give me any money on the card to spend) and now my credit is worse because now I have them on there. I just wanted to inform everyone of these scam artist and to let everyone know that if you are trying to rebuild your credit, this is not the company to try.

The initial letter of complaint was totally correct. I can definitely relate to the woman. This now-defunct banking institution has also tried to have me to pay $1200+ on a $230 balance. This is the only credit card account I have that is in this shape. I was even set up on a payment plan; they set the date of the payment, payment deducted from my bank, on the statement before credit of the payment, there were two charges made for over the limit fees and late payment. Therefore my payments were nothing. Someone seriously need to look into this matter on a legal issue. This is nothing but legalized loan sharking practicies. Oh, don't try to call anyone because no one ever answers. My latest correspondence from them was a collection agency in New York. I''ll see ya in court!

I read Vicki's complaint and could only shake my head in disbelief. Does this woman think that everyone is as dumb as she is? To say that she owes $850 in late charges on an original $100 limit is telling me that she never paid anything at anytime and of course the charges are going to continue to mount up. Is it any wonder the bank cancelled her card? About 15 years ago, I had a program to help people who had encountered credit problems. Out of all the banks I used, First Consumer was by far the most generous, had the lowest fees, and was the most consumer friendly of all. There are certainly some ripoffs out there. But, I seriously doubt that this bank is one of them. As for our poor Vicki... Wake up girl and smell the roses. If you want your financial life to change, you have to start by paying things on time no matter how much it costs. I have been there and it's easy to blame others for what we want to conceal. Get a j-o-b, two if necessary, and start acting responsible. I have absolutely no affiliation with First Consumer Bank. I just get tired of this kind of irresponsibility from a few. Next thing you know - someone will probably sue a restrauant for their coffee being too hot. Thank you for allowing me to voice my opinion. Respectfully,
