Fresh Start Financial - Stewart Title ripoff, violations of Truth In Lending, Added nearly double the fees to closing costs after agreements were signed. consumer ripoff Irvine California
Refinance my home through Fresh Start Financial. Jerry Maskios, a loan officer there, suggested I use Stewart Title for the close because they gave a "discount" to Fresh Start Financial. Actually, Stewart Title was nearly double the fees of the title company I wanted to use, First American. I refused to do business with them. I would not sign the final papers.
Stewart Title then reduced their fees along with Fresh State Financial.
After I received the settlement papers I realized that $2,100.00 in fees had been added back into the closing cost.
I have a copy of all of the paperwork. Some of the fees went to a secondary Mortgage Co., Uniwest Mortgage. After correspondence a month ago, I have been stonewalled and received no response from Fresh Start Financial. Although I intend to file a formal complaint with the State of California, I would advise anyone thinking of doing business with this company to reconsider. Although my credit was excellent, this company appears to prey on those that can least afford it. BEWARE!!!
