Over the past 2 years, I've had multiple service calls against the same refrigerator, which is under extended warranty. Each time Frigidaire replace a different part, and it always ends up failing again. It is only a $450 refrigerator, and they have to-date spent at least 3 times that trying to fix it.

The latest service call was on 12/11/2008, and the tech that looked at it told me it was going to cost more to repair it than the unit was worth, and that he was going to call Frigidaire to get it declared non-repairable. When he contacted Frigidaire, the technicians he spoke to on the phone would not declare it non-repairable, and told him they want to try to replace yet more parts on the unit. The parts they put on order cost more than the unit itself, plus if you factor labor costs in, once again they are spending more to fix the unit that it's worth.

It has become a waste of time and effort - when I called their consumer line, they will not budge on trying to repair it yet again, and will not replace it. They have a very unhappy customer, and are spending more money to attempt to fix something than it would cost to replace it. This SHOULD BE a no-brainer.

Dealer comes through

Follow-up on this issue... I contacted the dealer where I originally purchased the refrigerator (Standard TV & Appliance, Portland OR). They contacted the service company and their Frigidaire representative. After the service company agreed it made no sense to do the repair, the Frigidaire representative agreed that a replacement was warranted. The new fridge is being delivered tomorrow. So, kudos go out to Standard TV & Appliance for knowing what customer service is all about. Frigidaire's corporate customer service was beyond horrible. I did receive a reply from an escalation specialist (Chris Polk), which was nice. But since the dealer came through for me, I don't know if he would have been able to solve my problem or not. I am happy with the outcome of this, but extremely disappointed in the steps I had to go through to get this resolved.

I never purchase an appliance without consulting Consumer Reports. They have already tested them and KNOW THE best product for the money. When you fail research what you are buying you end up with lemons.
