I purchased my gateway in February 2001, from new the system ran constantly, sounded like it was constantly working, smelt hot like it was going to catch fire. I should have returned it immadiatly. Knowing that I had a warranty, I waited, making sure that I shut it down completely after using. (Which I should not have had to do with a NEW Computer) I finally decided that I needed to find the time to take this system into Gateway before the warranty ran out.

Dropped it off, with the tatooed, piereced up human being. Tried to explain what the problem was, of course he didn't really care, he just wanted the necessary info to check in my system and was told that they would check it out. Went back to pick up my system, approxiately two weeks later, after receiving a call that I could pick it up.

I went in all excited to have it back and asked that they had found wrong, and was told nothing, I said what do you meean nothing, the system gets hot and runs constantly, he told me that that had it hook up for and entire day and it ran fine, and didn't smell, I tried to tell him that it should be check for longer than a day and that it seemed like it was possible the cd rom that was not working right, all I got was that I was checked and nothing is wrong with it.

I started to get upset and told him that my warranty was soon to expire and if I take this home and my house burns down because of this computer that I sure hope that Gateway will be responsible for it.

His comment was get this "Isn't that why you have fire insurance". What a Jerk, he could care less if he helps a customer or not, Why would any business put someone like that in a Customer service position. If it weren't for the fact that I am making credit card payments on this system or that I could have gotten arrested, I would have thrown the entire system at him and told him to take it home and put it on in his house and take the chance that it could burn down.

I don't know what to do, of course I think that Gateway should make it right, but how do you make a multimillion dollar company to do what one peon wants.

Gateway's Burning

My Gateway hard drive burnt up. We came in from outside and noticed an electrical burning smell. My internet service told me after the fact that Gateway should have sent me a whole new computer instead of the hard drive they sent for me to install. My screen savers never worked from new with out locking up the computer. When I complained about the virus protection not working right they told me that it was just a sample or shareware and I would have to buy more. Strange how the salesman left out this little tidbit when he was trying to sell me more expensive merchandise. Dont buy Gateway.
