Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I attended GMAD with my boyfriend to get our random testing for HIV and other STDs. When I was there, we had to wait around for over an hour to be serviced, while we noticed several members of the staff on thier cell phones and having inappropriate discussions about thier personal lives. But that is not the worst part of our experience.

When were were conducting our testing we noticed the staff were NOT using gloves during the procudure. When we asked as to why, we were told it is not necessary or "standard protocol" anymore. This concerned us. So we began to strike a conversation and asked the staff member if he has experience conducting tests. He responded with an attitude and assured us he has conducted "those kinds of tests before." Then we asked if he was certified or trained, to which he replied he took a two hour course only!!!

A two hour course?! And he wants to stick a needle in our arm to test for stds withOUT using protection against himself?! We were shock and demanded to speak to a supervisor. We were introduced to a man named Brian who also gave us attitude when we tried to explain to him our concerns with the unsafe testing protocol. Soon after, we left the office in such a hurry, my boyfriend mistakingly left one of his bags behind, to which we eventually and reluctantly returned to retreive.

We have notified the NYC Health Department and AIDS Institude about this matter. We hope you do too!

When I went to GMAD

I can't speak to the specifics of the guy who wrote the first letter, but I go there at GMAD every six months or so and my experience has been completely different.

I was treated good and kind and the lady used gloves and explained everything to me very well.

If what the guys said is true than I bet the heath department will find out at take care but that is not what I saw.

Its different for everybody!

Sorry to say, but not everyone receives the exact same services. And if you have been attending every six months, you may have built a certain association that makes sure youre treated decent. Our luck, however, was much less than decent or perfect.

GMAD is attempting to sweep this issue under the Rug too!

Thats nice! Calling two innocent members of your community you represent liars! Its typical for this agency, though- always sweeping thier issues under the rug. Ever since my boyfriend and I went to GMAD for our testing (we ended up going to GMHC by the way- they actually used gloves. Our testing was done before August, also), I began reading and hearing alot of negative stuff about this agency.

The issue with the former executive director is one thing...but the stories about the board of director members, the lawsuits, and having an unprofessional inexperienced staff is just plain wrong! And Im also hearing stuff about the chairman of the board, Jones, ans his past dealings. One would think that entire agency, from top to bottom, should be investigated properly and fully! And they should be!

This complaint rings false on a number of levels

This complaint rings false on a number of levels:

First, the only male in this office who would do a blood draw has, in fact, a BS in Nursing. The only other person who could possibly have drawn blood is female, and went through a 500 hour training and certification process. Neither person would ever claim to have received only two hours of training.

Second, no one in this office (or any office, I would hope) would ever perform phlebotomy without wearing gloves. The gloves are for the protection of both the patient and the staff member. This is the most basic of precautions. Accusing a phlebotomist of not using gloves is like accusing a chef of spitting in your food; it is ridiculous on its face.

Thirdly, the accusation that a supervisor named David was rude and dismissive to the letter writer’s concern fails as well. While we do have a staff member named David, it is the phlebotomist who is David’s supervisor, not the other way around. There is no circumstance under which David would have been called upon to render judgment on the phlebotomist’s actions.

Lastly, due to changes in our contract, GMAD has not performed any tests requiring venipuncture since around August 2013.

CORRECTION: The supervisor's name

I would like to correct the name of the person who we spoke with while at GMAD. The working supervisor's name was David, not Brian.
