we ask you to verify the last four of the ssn and your address because we have to BY LAW make sure we are talking to the right party. its against the fdcpa to give out personal information to a third party. we are doing it for your protection. keep in mind we already have your personal information on file.

When answering a phone at work we identify ourslef by name, the woman repeated it to me. When I asked who was calling she said she was from GC Services.

How were you able to access that the phone staff member was genuinely with this referenced Company? Does your business have call redial for all incoming calls? Did they call you by name? Did you advise them that you are at work and your company policy does not allow these types of calls?
You were absolutely correct in not divulging any verification over the phone. Since folks can lie about their names and who they work for I consider your action to decline information to be appropriate. Next time politely instruct them that you are hanging up and not accepting any more phone calls from this business. They can send you a written request for any verification of information.
