Around the 14th of August, I called several insurance companies about a quote for my recently purchased car with the intentions of getting a better priced quote than the monthly payment I had from State Farm. When I spoke to this agent, I told him I wanted full coverage on my vehicle, he compared my coverages with state farm (which was full coverage) and SUPPOSEDLY gave me a better deal than the one I had with State Farm.

I was paying State farm around $170.00/month for full coverage and this agent from GEICO told me the quote from GEICO was going to be around $150.00/month. The agent also mentioned all these great GEICO services I was going to be covered for INCLUDING my full coverage insurance and a rental car in case I ever got into an accident he was very pleasant and I was very happy with the service at that moment.

HOWEVER, a month and two days later, I get into an accident in which I was sadly at fault for. I called GEICO right away and filed a claim. They told me the claim department was going to be open the next day by 7AM, so I called them first thing the next morning only for them to inform me that my vehicle was not covered collision NOR rental car services. I would have NEVER switched to GEICO if I was going to pay twenty dollars LESS for LIABILITY instead of FULL COVERAGE. Nobody in their right mind would do such thing!

I called the company that same day about two or three more times just for them to tell me they couldnt help me with my problem and they wouldnt let me speak to a supervisor because according to them, they would tell me the same thing they just did. A couple days later GEICO calls me to tell them my version of what happened in the accident. After I told them what happened, I asked them if I could talk to a supervisor about my situation and Alissa Nesbit at the service department said a supervisor would call me around 4:30pm.

It's the first of November and I still haven't heard from GEICO ever since. I know I was told I was going to have a very similar coverage for $20 less per month. Why would I have switched from FULL COVERAGE to LIABILITY ONLY for only twenty dollars less a month? I Don't know if the conversation was recorded or not when this agent told me all the great things about my new policy at GEICO but I sure hope there's a way you guys can find out.

My car is damaged to the point I can't drive it anymore, the axel is broken of the right front side, the back right side is damaged and both of the airbags came out. My car cost me $6,500 and the damages are about $3'000-$4,000 worth of fixing if not more. I trusted this agent when he said I was going to have full coverage just like I told him that I wanted and needed and I was lied to apparently. Worst of all, I don't have a car to be able to get to and from work everyday because my car is a wreck and I dont have the money to fix it on my own. Now I have to be asking people for a ride to and from work because I don't have a rental service either.

I'm very unhappy with the lack of professionalism of this GEICO company and the fact that the various times I called, nobody found a way to help me out or contact a supervisor and much less, call me back. I would hate to get agent AJ spangler fired because that's definitely not the point or purpose of my letter to you. I need help from somebody and I hope you guys could help me find a solution to my situation. It's not fair the way I got robbed because if anything, liability should have been much cheaper than $150 a month and mainly, I asked for full coverage!

Isn't a friendly customer service company supposed to give a customer what they want and need? I'm very disappointed with GEICO and unlike GEICO, I hope you guys can contact me soon and help me out with this problem. Thank you very much for your attention and I hope to hear back from you soon.

...And this is what happens when you dont read your policy...

All this could have been avoided if you had initially read the DECLARATION page on your policy when they sent it to you. Whether they emailed you one or sent you a hard copy, you should have done a comparision check with your previous insurance carrier.

Now having said that. I have different experience with GEICO. After 2 complete losses - Toyota Land Cruiser in 1997, LEXUS (different driver) accident in 1995, they covered both vehicles with little or no hassle.

And yes, their quote can be pricy, so it pays to shop around. But in all fairness to GEICO, my dealings with this company, they always treated me professionally. Incidentally one of their insured hit me a week ago from the back, while I was stopped at a traffice light. He claimed that he bent down to pick up a rag and he stepped on the gas pedal, causing some damage to hit his front grill and my back bumper.

GEICO called two days later and asked me to have the car inspected at one of their facility. After inspection, their rep cut me a check for the damages. The amount was correct for the damage sustained ( I had my own independent estmate done and they were within range).

Moral of the story....read and understand your policy at all times. And when in doubt, CALL the company  to clarify....

Full Coverage?

Listen, the problem is "full coverage" is a bank term. Full coverage means 20 different things to 20 different people. If I walked into a used car lot and asked for a "car" and nothing else I cant be upset if 2 different salesman bring me 2 different cars. Don't be ignorant, know what your buying.

Anyone who calls an insurance agent and just asks for "full coverage" is an IDIOT!!

(I was being nice in my prior post).

There are major differences in available coverages above and beyond the statutory minimum liability coverage where each state sets their own minimum limits.

Your insurance premium can vary widely depending on which deductible you choose anywhere from $50 to $500 is normal.

You have comprehensive coverage which for for non-moving vehicle coverage, like vandalism, theft, etc.

(I like a $100 DEDUCTIBLE on this coverage).

You have collision coverage for anything that happens when the vehicle is being operated.

(I like a $250 DEDUCTIBLE on this coverage).

Then there is Med Pay...multiple coverages available.

Then there is loss of use...multiple coverage available.

Then there is uninsured motorist coverage...

Then there is GAP coverage..

Etc. Etc..Etc..

With that said, there is no "one size fits all" coverage called "full coverage".

Got it?

WHY did you not READ the policy declarations BEFORE signing??

"Full Coverage" is a misleading term.

There is no real definition for "full coverage" these days.

The problem here is that you did not actually look at the coverage you were paying for.

WHY did you not do a line by line comparison of the two policies?

Although I agree GIECO sucks, and their rates are actually higher than most other companies, you have to pay attention when buying something as important as insurance!!

Anyway, you can file a claim against the E&O policy of that agent that serviced you.

You will most likely need a lawyer.

WAKE UP!!!

Somthing is wrong about this.  It does not cost $120 or $150 per month to insure a $6500 car.  There is no way that Geico cheated you - this is a huge company in a highly regulated industry.  Either some kind of error was made, you are misunderstanding somthing, or this is just not true.
