Our lab technicians tested the oil paint in a badly painted fake Rothko reproduction painting by handmadepiece.com, we found it to have 14,000 parts per million of lead. This is extremely high and to safely handle an oil painting from handmadepiece.com made from cheap Chinese oil paint, you need to wear rubber gloves and a face mask that closely covers the mouth and nose and does not allow paint particles to enter in. After handling the handmadepiece.com oil painting, you need to dispose of the rubber gloves and face mask securely and wash your hands in running water, scrubbing vigourously, for at least five minutes. The paint has the same chemical profile as 1st-art.com’s paintings who were forced to close by the Chinese government after the ‘Poisonous Paintings’ scandal of last year.

We are an independent laboatory and most certainly not a competitor of handmadepiece.com. It is really very unethical for them to be selling paintings with such a high lead content and trying to pass them off as safe to handle when touching them can cause lead poisoning. They should put their customers and workers health and well-being above their pursuit of a quick profit.
