" Heavy Construction Academy affords our students more practical seat time, and less stand around and wait time, than any other school in the nation. Heavy Construction Academy provides each student with their own machine during field time, and our field time is approximately 70% of the training. Other schools require their students to "share a machine" resulting in half the seat time. We know time in the seat is one of the most important aspects of the training, to become a heavy equipment operator. Heavy Construction Academy prides themselves on reducing as many distractions as possible, to allow trainees to concentrate on the task at hand.

Some examples of this philosophy include, comfort in machines (ie. enclosed climate controlled cabs), and two-way radios for one on one instruction to eliminate wasted time waiting for instructors to approach equipment, or finish with another student. Another example of this is eliminating tedious and time consuming tasks, such as fueling equipment, waiting for equipment to warm up in colder temps, or using antiquated greasing techniques. We provide students with electric grease guns (they get to keep when they leave), and fueled up, warmed up, and ready to go machines. We also have on site mechanics and spare machines so no student will ever miss operating time due to downed machines.

Mr. DelVecchio is often told that other training facilities claim that the real world will require operating open-cab machines, fueling & warming machines, etc. but his response to that is that students don't to be trained on how to be cold, hot, or damp, or how to put fuel in a fuel tank( although if someone did want instruction on that, we would provide it). Mr. DelVecchio knows that this is a training environment, and wants trainees to be able to concentrate on learning.
