Reserved a car with Hertz at LAX for 5/12 through Expedia.com. Upon arrival at the rental location I was asked for ID and a credit card. Presented the agent with my photo ID and credit card with signature on back of card and was told the credit card would not work. Said that the card had to have my name on it. The only card I had on me at the time was a company credit card and I told him my other cards were 1500 miles away so what could we do....

He told me there was nothing that could be done and offered no other suggestions. I asked to speak with a manager and was told he wouldn't be able to help me but I insisted and in a few minutes both the agent and manager came back to the counter... both smiling.... more like a smirk. First thing out of the mangers mouth was "Did you read your contract". I explained that this was the same card I had used with Expedia to rent the car and my flight tickets and he was quick to point out to me that I had only reserved the car and had not rented it. When I asked if there was anything that could be done he told me nothing could be done and started to walk away leaving me standing at the counter two hours away from my destination without a car.

Back to the airport I went on the shuttle to figure out what to do. As I was waiting I called Hertz to try and figure out what could be done. First person I talked to said nothing could be done without a card with my name on it... I asked for her superviser and was told the branch manager at the location I was trying to rent from had more say so than she did..... so I asked to talk to someone that had more clout than the branch manager..... That person basically told me the same thing.... nothing they could do.

Other arrangements were made no thanks to Hertz and I arrived at my destination 6 hous later than planned but we made the most of what we could. When I got back home I did some research on the Hertz website and found this bit of information.... Company credit cards are accepted as long as the signature on the back matches the card holder...... How about that, all my bases and I was still denied a car rental. Not only that but no one I talked to had any idea of what the company policy was regarding company credit cards.

Not saying this had anything to do with race but I felt very prejudiced against at the rental location, so maybe some sensitivity training might be in order for Hertz employees.
