I planned a week ahead for this rental. First I was told one price for the weekly rate and then when I went to pick up the car it was a higher rate then quoted.

They did agree to give me the original rate quoted. When My credit card was put thru. I was short $8.00 on the credit card and was told I could not rent the car. I offered to pay the $8.00 in cash or any other method. I was told no way.

It all has to be put on one credit card. There was nothing I could do but just cry. They would not do a thing and I was unable to rent the car for my family reunion. and all because of $8.00. Happy Easter Hertz! Your an auto rental from HELL! and do not have a heart! Your new moto should be. rent a car from no Heartz!!

Rip Off?

Obviously you do not have enough credit (or you have too much debt) for Hertz to trust you in taking a $20,000+ vehicle from their lot. This is not their fault, but YOUR's. Car rental agencies have very good reason for requiring customers to have sufficient credit on a single card. Perhaps you should have brought along a credit card with sufficient credit, or had someone with better credit reserve the car for you by cosigning and submitting their credit card. Poor planning on your part does not constitute a rip off!

Whenever I am going on vacation, I call the hotel, car rental agencies, etc, to find out exactly how much they are going to "swipe" my credit card for. This way I can make sure I have enough of a balance to cover those "swipes". As others have stated, many of those "swipe" your card for the payment plus an additional deposit. Then when you return the car, or leave the hotel, your card is hard charged for only what you used. I'm sorry that your vacation was ruined. Wasn't there another car rental agency that might have charged less than Hertz? Hertz is sometimes more expensive than others. Hopefully you thought of this and got another from somewhere else.

Make sure you always take in your reservation ID #. Although they can pull it up by your name, alot of people book more then one car and do not realize it. Now, its not the fault of Hertz that you did not have the credit amount on your credit card. That is a "you problem". Do you realize that you are taking a 20,000-35,000 dollar car off their lot? The next time you plan a week ahead for a family reunion, make sure and pay your credit card bill so you have enough credit for the authorization to go through. Generally speaking, Hertz holds 100 dollars over the estimated total for incidentals. For example, alot of peoples plans change, they need the car for an extra day or two. Thats where the extra 100 dollar authorization comes into effect. Or if you dont replace the fuel that you have used, once again, it will come from that 100 dollars. I dont think its too unreasonable to ask for 100 dollars over the estimated total to drive a car thats worth atleast 20,000 dollars for a week. Next time plan a little bit better have the correct amount of credit available on your card.

Let's see, you were renting a car and didn't have enough credit on your card, but this is the fault of Hertz? When you rent a car, your card is authorized for the estimated rental amount, and a small deposit, typically $300-$500. That's not much considering you're taking $20,000-$30,000 off their lot. If this family reunion was so important to you perhaps you should have made the proper financial arrangements to facilitate it. Hertz did not rip you off, you were trying to rip Hertz off.

the reason your card was near it's limit? While they should have taken the cash-though I don't know how their system is set up, you were the one with the original CC issue. How are they to blame? They didn't make you run up the CC that was used. It's which came first-the chicken or egg. There was certainly a lot that happened in your life way before you entered that Hertz-that was none of their fault. Why don't you own a car? If you do, why couldn't you use that? These are all sample scenerios that have contributed to ruining your Easter. Cause and affect. You ruined your own Easter by not having all the funds readily available.
