Unfortunately my review will be a very poor one of Hewitt's auto body. Several years ago I had a deer hit the front end of my Land Cruiser dented the front left corner fender. Well my insurance company covered the claim and I took it to Hewitt's thinking since they had a life time warranty on work and played softball with with one of the owners that it would be a good decision. Well as it turns out not so much. The front left fender that Hewitt's replaced with there life time warranty has paint bubble and flake off looks terrible. Here is the problem. Some guy name Phil O'Connor who owns POC collision bought Hewitt's auto body and here in lies the issue. Phil who is now owner of Hewitt's declined to take responsibility for honoring the lifetime warranty and will not fix the work. His claim is that the liabilities did not transfer when he bought the company. So here I paid in good faith for work and life time warranty and am stuck with a dead beat owner that won't fix the work that was clearly defective of the very company he purchased . My land cruiser has not other rust or paint defects on on any other part of the car only the one that Hewitt's installed and painted. I will say I am not a review writer but I will be posting these facts for people to read so they can make up there own decision on whether to use this company for there body work. Under POC Mr. O' Connor owns several other body shops for your information. Mr. O'Connor was given every opportunity to fix this issue and he has declined. Below is there own statement on there website. Since 2006 POC Collision has made getting back on the road after an accident fast, easy and affordable. Not legally responsible

Ok so since I wrote my first draft I have done a lot of investigation on this matter for the good of the public.  Here are the facts:

  • In Maine if a business buys a company but excluded liabilities ( I did not even know this was possible) then they are not resonsible for warranties  or repairs of any kind.  Heard it strait from the attorney general themselves.

So that leave the consumer flat out of luck unless the company that buys exisiting company has some level of good will.  I assume when you buy a company you buy it because it has been succesful and reputable.   Well the bottom line is this POC and Mr. Oconner are not legally resonsible for the life time warranty on the work done by Hewiits auto the same company that POC bought and keep the name.  The resposible party is The hewitt family that I am sure if I new where they were would honor the work.  But I am a fair person and If I find that a person is not legally resonsible than I beleive that I need to make public aware of that as well.

I can say I don't like the way I have been treated thus far but I guess I am SOL at this point.  Bottom line lifeime warranties are not for real read fine print.  It does not cover rust......

Mr O connor is not responsible for the warranty

As it turns out Mr Occoner is not at fault  and is not resposisble for the warranty the original owners are.  I confirmed this with the Attorney General.
