Extortion; they make you pay to ask question about "out of warranty" printer part you want to buy .....

I am the not-so-proud owner of an HP R80 Four-In-One Printer, which I purchased from this monolithic bureaucracy not two years ago. When the fax function stopped working right after we had a power surge, I figured perhaps some circuitry had been damaged.

Since the local "authorized HP repair centers" wanted to charge me hundreds of dollars just to LOOK at my printer, I decided to replace the phone jack cartridge, in the back of the printer, on the chance it was what was damaged. The online price for this part is $44.00 plus s&h.

I figured before droppping money on this part I would call sales support to make sure I was on the right track. I was told by a lower-level worker-drone that in order to find out what the part I was about to BUY did, I would have to pay $25 to speak with a tech support person because my printer is now out of warranty.

I want a sales job like that: people have to pay me just to talk about the product I'm trying to sell them, then pay me AGAIN to get it!

Gimme a break!!

Craig, You must really want people to just stay the hell away from anything having to do with HP huh? This is the second time on these forums I have caught you confessing for the most part, that HP is a two-bit hack of a company, at least where any kind of support is concerned. 10 to 1 says the "sales" support operator Jim talked to didn't bother to inform him that a OOW support system even existed, much less one that could offer him an upgrade to what could potentially be a better deal for the buck. Do yourself a favor Jim and steer away from HP if it's support you want. I could only hope Craig is not the norm for what HP has to offer. Lexmark makes some really decent equipment, you might try them and sell the R80 for parts. I still have an 8 yr. old printer made by Lexmark that works like a charm despite having been treated terribly due to the environment it was in. Good luck man.

When you Call Hp and your OOW (Out of Warranty) You must pay a Tech Support charge of 25-30 dollars for any questions over the phone regarding how to Work, Troubleshoot, or repair your product. This is stated VERY Clearly in you Warranty information Sent with ALL! Hp Products and Also Available to read on our Website Hp.com. If you Wanted a Technician to tell you your on the Right Track, that is asking them to troubleshoot your product, which means you have to pay for their help, However the R80 does have E-mail Support available for Free At Hp.com under the Contact us Section where you see "E-mail Support after you Buy". Or you could just have asked the Out of Warranty Rep. to give you the trade-up Options which included ,at the time you called us, a trade-up to an Office Jet D125 for a mere $120.00. However you have missed that opportunity because that offer is no long available to Consumers. You missed out on a great Deal. The D125 Retales at a local Hp Dealer for $500.00. Not a Smart Move on your Part.
