GM Card Services (aka) HSBC Card Services, sent an email indicating some questionable charges had been made to my account and asked me to verify recent chargess. They asked me to enter my username and password, which I did correctly. They still rejected my password with no working way to retrieve it.

I next went to their "contact us" link and sent an explanation of what had happened. Their responding email told me to send the response to another link, which again asked for my password and did not accept it.

Come on! Are people still actually falling for this? Wake up! You've just had your username and password stolen. This trick is almost as old as online commerce.

Here's what happened. A scammer sent you an email that said fraud had been detected on your account. He included a link to a site that appeared to be GM/HSBC, but was actually a fake site. You put your username and password into that page, which was stored and immediately delivered to the scammer. By now the scammer has probably already accessed your account. I suggest you waste no time in calling the card company and reporting what happened.

For future reference, financial companies do not send an email with a link if they believe your account has been compromised. The reason they don't is that only scammers do that.
