The price of the car I was quoted and agreed on was $19,595.00. The 24,945 I was actually charged did not include anything other than the price of the car. These are the additional figures: Taxes: $1742.48, Service Contract $650.00, Filing Fees: $30.00, Documentation Fee: $45.00, Waste Tire Mgmt Fee: $12.50, Other charges and fees: $87.50. By my calculation that's a total of $22,162.48 and with a downpayment and rebates totalling $7520.00 that should leave me with a balance of $14,642.48 to be financed. Instead I ended up with a financed amount of $20402.06 - and this does not include the additional dollar amount of $6811.06 as "finance charge" bringing the grand total I would pay for the car to $34733.12 instead of closer to $27,000 as I expected and as it should be.

Hi there. I did financing at a dealership for 8 years and it doesn't sound like you are getting ripped off. It's now been some time since I have looked at a contract, so I don't remember the Truth in Lending boxes real well but the figures you give seem ok. I remember one of the boxes being the sum of the car+tax+any rebate that may have been offered+any cash discount (or something to this nature)...could this be your confusion? In Minnesota, if you made higher payments that what was called for, you will NOT have to pay ALL of the interest as he told you you wouldn't have to do. The amount in question might also be the sum of all your payments...$19595 + $650 (warranty) X 60mo @ 8.5% (I'm guessing) = $413.45 X 60 = $24807------------72 months goes over $25,000.00. Plus, there was some sort of what's called a DOC fee added in there...That can be up to a few hundred extra dollars, depending on state... These are all rough estimates with the numbers, and I really couldn't explain it to you much better without the contract in front of me but I wanted to reply to this to try to make you feel a little better...It really sounds legit to me. Try to rest easier, I doubt you are being ripped off, ok. If you wish to reply with more information for me I can try to give it another shot at telling you what's going on. Oh, and if you're finance guy isn't helping you, go right on in there and see the general manager...He should care.
