Our Hyundai Elantra is only 4 years old.  Purchase date was 9 May 2011.

On 8 July 2013, we noticed it was having issues starting and would stall (idle very low).  At this time, the odometer was reading 61,954.  We took it to the dealership as obviously it was still under warranty.  The report indicated that the keys needed to be re-learned.  They issued us with new keys.  The problem never really went completely away, but it was tolerable and we believed them when they told us it had nothing to do with the starter and it was a key issue.

Fast forward to July 12th of this year.  The starter motor completely went.  To the tune of $1200.00 as it is no longer covered under warranty as we are over the 100,000 KM mark.  120,000 to be exact.

I advised Hyundai Canada that I believe the starter motor was always the issue as it shouldn't have completely blown at just 4 years old with regular yearly maintenance.  They refused to help me as we are not under warranty.  There wasn't even negotiation involved.  Their answer was simply it's not covered.

1 week later, the car began to shake when we put on the brakes.

Another $1200.00 later and the entire braking system had to be replaced.

The car is 4 years old and in a span of 1 month we have had to spend nealy $3000.00 in repairs on a well maintained vehicle while still making monthly car payments.  Smells bad.
