***A good guide to dealing with charges on your phone bill***

The company I work for recently found a charge on the phone bill for "web services". The company was Galacy, with Integretel doing the billing. Looking back through our business phones bills, I discovered the charge had been on our bill for over a year.

After making a call to Galacy I was told that they had recorded proof that the change to our bill was agreed upon by us. We had never done such a thing and not to my suprise, they couldn't produce a recording. I was directed to deal with Integretel.

A few BBB complaints later, Integretel and their billing partner PaymentOne (collectively doing the billing on behalf of Galacy) sent a letter saying they would refund us for around $29.95. They had billed us for over $300 *illegally* for over a year.

I spoke several times with Juan Perez at Integretel and was told to deal with Galacy instead.

So I did some research and discovered that FTC charges had been brought against Integretel in the past. I would put this fact to use later.

I called the Michigan Attorney General, the FCC, the FTC and a consumer's group in California (the home state of Integretel). I copied all the companies on this information, but decided to tell Juan Perez over the phone. (He started yelling at me during our previous phone call and I wanted to put him in his place)

I informed Juan of the complaints I had made as well as asked him how long he had been working for Integretel. He had been there for about 12 years which meant he was working there when the FTC brought charges against Integretel and their billing partner eBillit. Read on...

Juan said he was aware of the charges and that they had been working with a company they barely know at the time. I asked him if it was eBillit and he said yes - this is where I informed him that eBillit changed their name right after the charges were settled... they changed their name to PaymentOne. And it clearly states on Integretel's phone answering service that they are Integretel, working with PaymentOne.

Juan stuttered a bit and our conversation ended.

A few days later I recieved a check for $300-something dollars and some change from Galacy, as well as an apology.
