Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

In December 2013 I ordered a people finder report for $39.95 on my Visa card. I was VERY careful to  purposely not order any other services their website tried to get me to sign up for.

The report sucked!!  It was very non-informative about the person's information which their website said it would show.  Also, it listed past residence locations (cities and states) in which the person I was searching for had never lived.  I would have never ordered it if I had known it was such a rip-off.

And now for the reason for this Rip-off Report...

In February 2014 I my Visa bill said that they were billing me $19.95.  I then looked at my previous (January 2014) Visa bill and noticed that they had charged me another $19.95 at the same time they'd billed me in January 2014 for the $39.95.

I called their customer service number (877-974-6141) shown on my Visa bill.  The lady told me that the original $39.95 was a "special discount price" (which it was NOT)....and that I when I ordered the $39.95 People Finder report I had chosen to recieve an unlimited searches services for 7 days (or something like that)...blah, blah, fricking lieing blah.

What she was saying was something which was NOT mentioned on their website and was something I did NOT want and would have never signed up for!!

I told the customer service lady (from India and kind of hard to understand) that I was going to do a stop payment on the second, unwanted $19.95 payment.  She then verbally gave me a refund confirmation number and said the $19.75 would be credited to my Visa account in 5-7 business days and I'd receive a confirmatin email with the information about this.

She asked me how pleased I had been with the People Finder report and I told her how badly it sucked and told her I was going to tell everyone I knew to NEVER use anything associated with their company.

She then told me that she would refund my original $39.95 AND the first $19.95 they scammed from me back in January AND the second $19.95 they were attempting to scam from me in February 2014.  She told me I'd receive a confirmation email with the refund confirmation number.

It's been an hour since my phone call to their customer service and so far I have not recieved the refund confirmation email she promised.  I will wait 7 business days and then call my Visa card company to see if all the charges have actually been refunded to my Visa account.  If it hasn't, I will initiate a stop payment to Intelius.

If I remember to do so, I will update this Ripoff Report with how this situation turned out.

Update on my previous complaint

Intelius actually did send me an email within the same hour as my complaint phone call to them.  Whereas over the phone the customer service rep said they would refund my original $39.95 and both hidden/unasked for subsequent $19.95 "Premimum membership" monthly charges, their email only mentioned the refunding of the second $19.95 charge.

I waited until today (a week after my phone call) and contacted my credit card company to see what, if any, charges had been removed by Intelius.  I was told that, true to Intelius' customer service rep's word, the original $39.95 and both hidden/unasked for subsequent $19.95 "Premimum membership" charges, had been removed.

Therefore, I'm a happy camper with Intelius' customer service.....but am definitely not a happy camper with them QUITE PURPOSELY slipping in hidden monthly charges like some of the supposedly "free" credit score report companies do.

I'm sure all everyone is familiar with the television commercials about companies who claim to offer a "free credit report", but still ask you for a credit card number and begin secretly billing you each month.  That is basically same scam that Intelius is pulling.
