I recently went downtown Austin to grab a quick bite and visit the notorious Tyler's. I ate at Jack In The Box which was right by Tyler's. After eatting, we walked from Jack In The Box to Tyler's, leaving our car in the parking lot. We were only in the store for 30 minutes. When we walked back to our car it was gone. There were signs posted that J&J Towing would "tow at owners expense". This company has to have a driver that just sits there watching this lot for people to walk away and then snatches up cars quicker than you could ever imagine. The lady at J&J was one of the rudest people I have ever had to deal with! Yes, I was upset... Yes, I felt like I had been the victim of a money making scam, but NO... there was absolutely no reason for anyone to be that rude. I contacted the Texas Department of Licensing to verify this company was legit. There was no J&J Towing listed.... this company is listed as Franklin Service Stations, Inc. Be aware... they also go by TJ's Towing.
Our fees we were told would be $193.30. This amount was given to me over the phone before the vehicle even hit their lot, and the amount included $20 for a day of storage plus tax!
There are a lot of towing companies out there that get a really bad name because of places such as J&J Towing, TJ's Towing, or Franklin Service Stations. (Makes you wonder why they go by so many different names, doesn't it?)
