We received a letter from them also, stating my wife owed money to a phone service from an address she never lived at. They refused to send proof of the unpaid bill, and when we called the phone service who was supposedly using them to collect, they never heard of us. My wife is an attorney (they picked the wrong mark, didn't they?), who wrote a Cease and Desist letter, sent it off with return receipt. Never heard from them again.

I am glad i fought this company instead of just paying up. They are a total scam. I disputed them reporting me to the credit company equifax..and recieved notice that my investigation ended with them removing the item from my report. Obviously they could not provide proof to equifax to keep it on there. I am just waiting for the result of my experian investigation and then i am done with this terrible mess. I am upset that in the meantime my credit was smeared. i had applied for a credit card recently and was denied because a negative item (JBC) for the first time ever. My advice is make them work for your money if you feel it's an invalid debt ..File complaints against them with the state agencies and better business bureuas. They most likely will back down because they are not running a legit business. Also save all your paperwork...it comes in handy when reporting them. Alot of their original letters to me contained illegal threats of lawsuits and fines. Good luck to anyone dealing w/ them.

Jenifer, You have been damaged. First they can not threaten you with legal action they can't take (obviously the statute of limitations has probably run on those checks). Second, if you request it, they have to prove the debt. Since they violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, there are statutory damages of $1,000 and attorney's fees. Get with a consumer law attorney right away and sue them.

I went through the same thing with them approximately 2 years ago. They sent me a notice for a few checks that were OVER 10 years old!! I requested copies of these checks, of course, because it had been so long and I never recalled writing them to begin with. The gentlemen, if you can call him that, said by law he did not have to send me copies of the checks unless I acknowledged that it was my debt and that if I didn't pay these checks (totalling over $200), they would take me to court and sue for garnishment of my wages. At this time, I didn't think I could do anything except pay the debt, and figured I could get the check copies after that and get my money back if they were not mine...yeah, right!!! After paying the amount, I called JBC and told him I wanted copies of the checks---he told me still that he did not have to provide them, and if I wanted them I would have to contact another company in another state and possibly pay for copies. Why would he care if I got copies after the fact---they had already gotten their money! Needless to say, I still do not know to this day if those were legitimate debts of mine. I reported them to the BBB (before I knew any better) and they didn't even respond to that... The lesson I learned is that I will never pay money to someone who cannot prove my debt-I don't care how much they threaten me!!! Good luck!!!!
