Well my house has finally been completed. We have been living in it for about a month now. As for the quality of home that Jim Walters built for me, they did a great job. My house is beautiful and I love it. There are still a few things that I am unhappy with about my home but I have got tried of trying to get them to come repair them and my husband is fixing them instead. They have asked me numerous times to take back what I have put on this site about them and I refuse to do so. I will say again that they built me a beautiful home but I will continue to say that they do not get in a hurry and they give you the run around constantly. People should just be very aware of the fact that the line that the salesperson gives you about it taking 90 days to build you home is not necessarly true. I was told that it would take 5 months to build my house which was almost correct. They started on my house in October and finished in March. But the part that they fail to explain is that it will take them 3 to 4 months to actually get started. One of the major problems that I see with this company after dealing with them is that there is huge lack of communication. If they could fix that and start actually telling people what is going on instead of just telling them what they think people want to hear I think there would be a lot less complaints about the company. Also anyone who is currently in contract with them and have a completion allowance coming they don't exactly explain that to well either. You have to have estimates from a company doing some kind of work for you (like painting, flooring, etc.) and you have to turn that in to Jim Walters and then they send the check to you and you have to both sign for it to be cashed. And this normally takes about 3 weeks for all this to be taking care of. They failed to explain all that to me and I had already bought all my flooring and paint before my house was released to me. All and All you do get a great quailty home for a very reasonable price, you just have to go into it with a whole lot of patience and be ready to call the construction managers a lot. If you can deal with that then you will have a beautiful home like me. Also if you are currently in contract with them and they have not started building request that Rod and his crew as your framing crew and stay on top of the sheetrock crew because their work leaves something to be desired.

We decided to cancel our contract with JWH because of the constant run arounds from the company. We were told to get a certian amount of dirt for our lot, which we got and spent 600.00 on the dirt. Then we were told that is was not the right king og dirt nor was it the right amount we would need 3 times as much dirt. After a great deal of frustration with this company I decided to cancel my contract with them at the end of Feb 2006. Now in June 2006, they sent me a letter saying that they will cancel my contract by I will be responsible for any charges that I have incurred. Which is fine but this goes to show you how unorganized they are, just getting to my cancellation 4 months later. Then they want me to pay for my deed that they processed, but the deed is not even correct. They have the wrong names on the deed. So unorganized. I am glad that I decided not to build with these builders. They are a joke. email me if you like ----- Sincerely, Silcio-Kenner la CLICK here to see why Rip-off Report, as a matter of policy, deleted either a phone number, link or e-mail address from this Report.

We recently lost our home as well in Chalmette due to Hurricane Katrina and have been considering a Jim Walter home. Everything they state about their homes sounds great but now it looks like it may be too good to be true! I am sorry to hear about the problems you are having with them and we are having similar problems with our insurance company so I know the frustration! I thought this may be a good option for us to get a nice home at a good price but I am not up for any more empty promises and disappointments. At least if we do decide to look further into the Jim Walter homes we will do it causiously now and bring up some of the issues we have read about now. I appreciate you sharing your story and wish you all the best with getting your new home!

It is now almost seven months since I signed my papers on my home. Things are looking a little better, we are now up to the sheetrock being finished but it is a slow process. The crews will come and work for about 3 hours and then they go home. For people that are getting paid by the job the sure don't want to work very much. Everyday we grow more and more impatient. My daugther is coming home to visit the end of March and I so want to be in my house so that she and her husband can stay with us instead of a hotel. There is no way for them to stay in my little damaged trailer that already has four of us in it. The lady that asked me to email her, I will more than happy to talk to you about my experience. I some information that my be helpful to you.
