Upon solicitation by the company via telephone, I submitted two accounts for attempted collection by JSA. I was intially contacted by a "Lisa," a "Heather Clark," and then ultimately by a "Melissa" and given a "special" rate of commission. After hearing nothing from them for a month or so, I called to inquire about my company's account with them. Nobody seemed to be able to find me on file at first, but then it magically appeared and the employees were still "working on it."
Almost a week later, a representative called my business and asked if I would be interested in employing the services of JSA for collections on any delinquent accounts. When I informed this individual that they were (supposedly) already working some of my accounts, the response was sheepish embarrassment and then a curt goodbye.
After hearing of no activity on the one particular account for over 60 days, I made a call to the company requesting they withdraw their services. I was denied my request, and threatened with lawsuits and abusive language.
DO NOT use this company, as they are untruthful and ineffective.

Just so that you know, if Joseph Steven and Associates collects any money on your behalf, you will never see it. I would continue to contact them and try to remove your accounts from them. They collected on two of our accounts and we were never given the money. They, at first, lied to us about collecting the money. We then had one of our customers send us a copy of the check she had sent to them. The back of the check showed that they had cashed the check. When I confronted them on this matter, they used foul language and threatened to sue our company. If I were you, I would turn my accounts over to a different collection agency with the hopes that the new agency collects payment before JSA does. I spoke with an attorney in our state who suggested that we contact the DA in Ventura California. He said that if there are enough complaints to the DA about this company, action may be taken against them. I have not contacted the DA as of yet, but plan to do so soon. In the meantime, there is an ex-employee of Joseph Steven & Associates who has filed a comment to my complaint and who has asked me to contact her by email as she may be able to give me some information. Her email address was deleted by the site and I was unable to email her. I, however, have asked her to contact me by phone. I am interested as to what she has to say. This company has to be stopped. Someone has to stand up to these people and do something about this.
