As I began to read this report, I became very confused as to why it was even posted. There was a HUGE danger in here, but I don't believe it can be attributed to the rescue. First of all, I would be glad I wasn't pushed out the door with the kitten in it's original state. Second, I would have been STRAIGHT to the vet, not waited until the next day when I already had an appointment. Third, she did not abandon this poster, but provided support. She didn't offer to take it back? It didn't sound like she was asked. It does however sound as if this kitten may have passed of FIP, if not circumstances. I learned my lesson the hard way. Any new kittens or cats are taken directly to the vet and boarded until test results for leukemia, aids, and FIP are in and negative. Just because it is not obvious, does not mean it is not there and contagious.

My experience with Kitty ResQ has been very different from Julie's. I adopted two kittens from Kitty ResQ, two different times three years apart, based on their PetFinder postings. Barbra of Kitty ResQ followed up with me on the kittens' health and progress both times, and I was impressed with her work and dedication to saving cats' lives. It is important to recognize that Kitty ResQ is NOT a cat shelter. Rather, it is a cat rescue operation that matches potential cat adopters with cats located in various shelters, and then arranges to bring the cats to the people adopting them. Barbra and the people helping her through Kitty ResQ necessarily have to rely for information about the cats' health on the people and volunteers at the various shelters. Both times I got terrific, well cared for kittens through Kitty ResQ. The first cat died three years later from a condition which neither Kitty ResQ nor the shelter could be expected to have been aware of, and the second cat is healthy and happy.

Julie, I am very sorry that your kittens took ill and died. However, as someone who has a house full of rescue cats and, moreover, a volunteer for KittyResQ, I feel it is important to rebut your criticism of this organization. Barbra Brooks does indeed run KittyReqQ out of her home, but so what? She dedicates all of her time and money to saving as many cats and kittens as possible. The cats she saves do in fact come from kill shelters in the South. I am one of the volunteers who either drives these animals part of the way (from the shelter to the homes which Barbra finds for them), or I house them overnight to give them a break from the trip. I have transported or housed dozens of cats and kittens. Barbra performs the miracle of finding homes for all of them and, for those she cannot place, she gives them a home with her instead. Forgive what may see like melodrama, but this woman is a saint. Just this week she, by herself, helped two ill mother cats give birth to kittens who would not have otherwise been born alive, and she gave emergency medical care and feeding to the newborns when both mothers rejected them. This is what Barbra does for cats and kittens, with her own money and donations. It is a tragedy that your kittens died. However, I have seen the contracts Barbra has with adopters, and those contracts state that the adoption fees are nonrefundable. This woman is not getting rich, or even middle class, from what she does, and the fees you paid went directly into the care of all the cats and kittens whom Barbra takes in. I am the first person to speak out against cruelty to animals and people who exploit animals for personal gain. That said, I fully support Barbra Brooks and KittyResQ.
