I clipped an ad from the Sunday newspaper on 5/4/03 and went to this dealer to see a specific vehicle; which much to my 'surprise' was conveniently already sold. I advised them I wanted to see an identical vehicle at the same price and questioned how they could only have one vehicle of that model/make, afterall, it was a 2003 model Tribute.

I was even told by the sales manager that I had last weeks ad. I never did get a clear response when I questioned why then did he have this same ad posted to the bulletin board in the sales/meeting room; which I saw as we were standing there.

I thought I had made some headway with the sales staff at that point and felt surely they thought I could not be duped any further. Boy was I wrong! While they did finally make me a good and fair deal on a vehicle; they came back with an offer sheet of only $800 on my trade and short-term payemnts of $680/month. When I pointed out to them that I had previously researched my vehicle in both Kelly and NADA, and I wanted to see where he got his figures, the sales manager 'admitted' to making an 'error' when he input the information.

How convenient for them. The trade allowance was still $800 less than what I wanted. My wife and I left there and went to lunch to discuss this dealers sales practices. We concluded that we did not feel they were being honest and we went to Red-Mcombs at IH10/UTSA Blvd. We got a great vehicle (Durango SLT), for below average retail, we were approved within one-hour; and get this-I got $2500 for my trade-just as I asked-with no hassles! I will never go back to Legend Mazda nor will I advise any of my friends/family to go there.

I need to COMMEND you, over and over again for doing EXACTLY the RIGHT THING...VOTING WITH YOUR FEET! Read some of these other reports and you will see how so many of the "victums" got into that position by being a DOORMAT. They knew the dealer was trying to defraud them or in other ways treating them poorly. What did they do? They REWARDED the con-man by giving him their business! Incredible, isn't it? Then they expect somebody else to get them out of the mess they are in, when they had COMPLETE CONTROL to begin with and should have walked out, just like you did! Everyone reading this message board should take the lesson from you. You were fantastic! I hope you never stop handling yourself like this. The only sure way to eliminate the POND SCUM of the car business is to WALK OUT just like you did! YOUR ACTIONS WERE EXCELLENT!!!
