Maria, The first rule when dealing with ANY debt collector is to stay off the phone. NEVER speak to any debt collector. It will never do anything positive for you, and will almost always make things worse. Second, NEVER pay on an old debt, or agree to pay until you determine if it is still legally collectable! Paying on it will restart the statute of limitations. It sounds as if it WAS past the SOL, and uncollectable. Don't let them upset or intimidate you. This is what they count on. They count on an uninformed consumer. Go to FTC.gov and read and print out the FDCPA. And do a general search on DEBT COLLECTORS and DEBT BUYERS. Don't ever assume they are telling you the truth, and I bet that woman is not an attorney. Search for her name with the Bar Association. I have never heard of LHR, but they are listed on budHibbs. Here is the info: Agency Details LHR, Inc. 56 Main St Hamburg, NY 14075-4905 Phone: (716) 648-6489 Fax: (716) 648-3484 Web Address: www.lhrinc.com >> Head Collector: Wayne Lewis, Owner, President David Hastie, Owner Other Offices: 1385 Market St Philadelphia, PA 19107-2500 Phone: (716) 648-3240 Fax: (716) 648-3484 Bud Says... Owner and head bottom-feeders Wayne Lewis & partner David Hastie appear to go to court a lot. They are NOT litigants, rather defendants for the lawlessness they allow out this excuse for a collection agency. I am aware of several lawsuits against LHR, just from my area in Texas. You can be assured he is being sued in other jurisdictions by consumer law professionals based on the conduct of his illiterate collection goons. Wayne & David buy debts that are so old; they are barred by federal law from even looking at your credit reports about them. A 'Time Barred Debt' is prohibited by federal law from being placed on your credit files and in most states, cannot be litigated. Since LHR has NO license or bond as required by most states, one can assume their illegal debt collection practices amount to nothing more than telephone extortion. It is not known if LHR employs collectors with prison records or drug habits as many agencies do in the Buffalo, NY area they operate from. This is a classic con game that allows them access to some of your personal information. They then twist the story with lies and threats that are all untrue in order to scare you into paying them. Do not fall for their swindle of threats, lies and extortion. LHR is incapable of taking any type of legal action, especially when they are so illegal. Tell any LHR idiot that you have found this website and are not going to become party to their fraud. Contact me for referral to a local consumer law professional, tape their calls (where legal) and save your money. These future inmates won't be around long. >> I hope this helps you understand what you are dealing with. Good luck!
