Father, Son Sentenced For Credit Card Debt Scheme Friday, February 27, 2009 12:30 PM COLUMBUS, Ohio A father and son are heading to federal prison after being convicted of operating a phony credit card debt elimination business, 10TV News reported on Friday. According to investigators, Dan Wickline and his son, Chad Wickline, used a phony Pickerington business to swindle millions of dollars from more than 400 people. "These are two guys that stole a lot of money from a lot of people, people who are still struggling from that," said Jeffrey Conrad, a victim of the scheme. "It's at least nice to see them held responsible for the maximum sentences." Chad Wickline received a sentence of 30 months, while Dan Wickline received a year-and-a-half behind bars, 10TV News reported. Both sentences will be served in federal prison. In addition to their prison sentences, the Wicklines were also ordered to pay hundreds of thousands in restitution, 10TV News reported. Credit Card Debt Company Officials Indicted Jun 12 2007 8:37PM COLUMBUS, Ohio - Two central Ohio men were facing federal charges Tuesday for allegations involving a credit repair company they operated. Dan and Chad Wickline, a father and son from Fairfield County, claimed to offer help to people with credit trouble. But federal authorities said the pair put people deeper in debt. Indictments filed against them in federal court in Columbus resulted from a nationwide investigation. Numerous people reported being victimized. Internal Revenue Service agents told 10TV News the Wicklines used the U.S. Mail to perpetrate a scam. Agent Jose Gonzalez said the two men, along with other, specifically targeted individuals and families saddled with credit card debt. Their company based in Canal Winchester, Liberty Resources, was supposed to help card holders eliminate debt payments. "We just had twins born at the time," one accused explained. "Buying two of everything, we ran up some debt." So he and countless others trusted Liberty Resources. "As a victim, we fell into their scam. It was just believable to us to think that it would work. It turned out it didn't." Agent Gonzalez told 10TV News the company's formula was simple. "They basically placed false testimonials on the Liberty Resources website. And that's what induced individuals to initiate curiosity of approaching the Wicklines," Gonzalez said. Charges contained in the federal indictments against the Wicklines included 17 counts of mail and wire fraud, as well as money laundering charges. Details of the charges claim the men devised a business plan "knowing the statements and representations made to customers were false and fraudulent." 10TV News attempted to contact the Wicklines for comment. No one answered the door Tuesday at their listed address in Fairfield County, a home valued by the county auditor at $439,000. People who felt victimized were hoping to see Dan and Chad Wickline punished. "Certainly, I hope he gets a long federal prison sentence. And I'd like to see restitution to the victims. The bottom line is these people were out money. If we could get any back, it'd help." Federal agents estimated the operation netted more than $2 million. The IRS said two other men involved - one from Pickerington and another from Rhode Island - reached plea deals with federal authorities. My husband and I both signed on with Liberty resources and were conned real good by Chad. We spent nearly $15,000.00 on their magical program. All Lies! I was looking at this site several months ago and saw a post from a Mr. Jason Friedman and we called him up. We owed close to $300,000.00 in debt after the ride we were taken for by LR. Mr. Friedman settled out our debt and avoided any judgements( a few which were days away from being filed)He saved us $162,800.00 and our credit shot back up to almost where it was. Brenda, They are all related, just different company names. They are now doing the travel and it appears as if Chad is forming websites to sell to his downline. When he was in Legacy, he didn't make any money on the network marketing of it. He went out, built a website and then sold those sites to people in his downline and promised them the world. Said he would send them tons of leads and lots of people will flock to their site. They made all their money from the sites, but then Legacy shut them down because when you signed up for Legacy, you receive a corporate site from them. Legacy did not want Chad selling sites to people when they got the corporate site for free. So now it appears as if they are back at it again. If you sign up for YTB, you get a site for being a rep, but it appears as if they made their own site again and will probably be trying to sell these to their downline. Why? Because they know they can't make money by just signing up people so they make all their money by charging people for other sites and by promising them they will send them a lot of leads!
