On Saturday, October 30th, 2004, I went to Liccardi Chrysler on Rt. 22 in Greenbrook, NJ to look at automobiles. A young salesman named Rosario took me around. I test drove a 2001 Jeep Cherokee and a 2004 PT Cruiser. I liked the Cherokee.

But because I have blemished credit, Rosario told me that it should be no problem getting me financed with $2000 down because the dealership dealt with at least 12 different lenders. He assured me that out of these 12, a lender was sure to agree to finance me.

Even though I liked the Cherokee, he pushed the PT Cruiser on me because it had a $3500 rebate and it was a newer car. He said the $3500 rebate plus my $2000 would altogether make a $5500 down payment which would increase my chances of being financed.

He did not tell me that the $3500 rebate had already been calculated into the final price of the car, which was $14,995. Way above what I told him I could afford. The Jeep was only $10,500, yet he told me that he found one lender who would approve me but doesn't finance any used vehicle with mileage over 80,000. The Jeep had 85,000 miles on it.

However, just to see if a lender would approve me, I gave Rosario $100 and signed a "purchase" form but also made him write on the form that the $100 was completely refundable by the dealership if I changed my mind or the deal fell through for any other reason.

I went home, thought about it, and changed my mind about buying a car at the time because he was pushing through on a car that a) I really didn't like and b) was way more than I wanted to pay. I decided to continue driving my current car and wait until Spring 2005 to purchase a new car. At least I now knew there were lenders out there who were willing to give me another chance.

On Saturday, November 6, 2004, I went back to the dealership and told Rosario I changed my mind and to please return my deposit. He said I had to speak to his manager, Mike.

After trying very hard to change my mind about wanting my deposit back and trying to convince me to go ahead and buy the car, he said that the business office wasn't open on Saturdays and that I would have to come back Monday through Friday.

I came back that Monday, November 8, 2004; saw Mike and after he tried to push yet another car on me, told me the owner is not in and the owner has to sign all refund checks. He asked me if they could just mail it to me and I said yes.

It is now November 16 and no check in the mail. I get the feeling that Mike is playing my intelligence because I am a woman. If he took a moment to read my initial application for financing he would've noticed that I am a senior legal secretary whose specialty is litigation. One hundred dollars is one hundred dollars. And they owe me.

Please regard this as an official complaint directed to owners Clemente Liccardi,, Jeffrey Liccardi, Gregory Liccardi and Kevin Liccardi. I hold them responsible for their employee's shoddy behaviour over a lousy $100. And I will take this matter further if I am forced to.

This customer's money has been refunded since December. Mid November, our General Manager left the store to pursue other interests. Since he was in charge of signing off on any and all refunds, and we could not find the list of outstanding refunds owed, there was a delay in sending them out. Thanks to efforts on everyone's part once we realized our error, we finally sent all payments owed for November. This customer has received and cashed her refunded deposit, and as such, I ask that this report be removed from your site. Thank you for your time!
