I found this website ([email protected]) on the internet so I could take my wife on a three days romantic get away in the mountains. I wanted to try another location other than the one we usually go too, what a huge mistake that was. I called the phone numbers listed and no one ever answered. I sent an e-mail to inquire about a cabin and it took several days for someone respond. They signed there e-mail as Linda which the name as the point of contact was a Linda Pearce. Even after this initial contact it took some lenghty time for any replies.

 

Linda wanted me to send her a money order and then she would send me the info on the cabin. I replied to her that I was not comfortable with this process due to the number of scams on the internet these days adn I would feel better if I spoke with someone. We only had a few days to get this done or I was going back to our regular location, which I should have to start with. She said she was not in Virginia but could have her son Ashley call me to handle things. (only to find out later she calimed to be England caring for her sick father in-law) She said her son lives a few hosues from the property and is taking care of things. I agreed to have her son call me and he definitley had a British accent. He had direct contact with his mother in England which appeared to be speeding things up as it took forever for her to reply back. She quoted $475 for three nights and offered me a larger cabin at that same price becasue we wanted privacy and the initial cabin was not private. It was acceptable if we could bring the money order with us and give it to her son when we arrived. I even offered to pay in cash upon arrival which I am glad I did not now but she wanted a money order so it could be deposited. Not sure what that was about but you can do the same with cash. She still wanted me to mail it and I would not send a stronger a amoney order and she made the comment there was not enough time anyway and agreed to have her son meet me at the location for the check. She was out of the picture at this point and everything was being dealt with through her son.

However not everything was set in stone as no one had yet to e-mail me or call to confirm the price so I could get a money order. I had to call her son the day before we were to arrive to get confirmation. He said that the $475 quoted was confirmed. I asked him if he needed a money order or cashiers check and he said a cashiers check would be fine, so a cashiers check it was. It did save me an additional step in the process. We arrived at the location and no one was there to greet us. No contracts to sign or anything which I thought was strange. Our instructions were that the rear sliding door was open with the keys on the counter as we could just go in and he (Ashley) would be by to get the check. The door was open and we took possession but only to find stink bugs everywhere. The floors, beds, walls and when I asked about it he said the cabin had been closed up all winter and he just treated the place. He blamed it on the state of Virginia and made no effort or offer to vaccum the bugs or get rid of them and we ended up doing it ourselves only because we wanted this trip to be special. We should have walked out then wthout giving him the cashiers check but we were willing to give it a try.

 

Now with that said this were things take a turn for the worst. We vaccumed these out off every room and surface  but they kept reappearing thorughout the night. I mean on the floors, walls, beds, counter tops. Agian we vaccumed these stink bugs up along with some wasp flying aoround as well. Make no mistake about this, these critters were inside the house not outside. Still at this point we were somewhat doing okay with this. Later that night after dinner we decided to take a romantic dip in the hot tub. It was dark out so were not able to get a good look at the hot tub conditions. We spent about 10 minutes in the hot tub and felt a slim on our skin and a odor to the water. I turned on the hot tub light only to realize the water was so dingy with a slimmy film. You could barley see the light when I turned it on and you could not even see the top of your legs in the water. We immediately got out and took another shower as we took one before we went in at their request. We went to bed and while watching the TV we noticed bugs flying around. I turned on the light and these stink bugs were all over the floor and walls again. We vaccumed them up again as well and the ones on the ones on the wall. We were going to vacate the proterty then but decided to be troopers and give it a try. I must say we were thrown a step back by the bug problem as the location we normally go too (Lydia Mountain Log Cabins never has that problem and they are on the end of the National Forrest as well.) I woke up a few time to find these bugs on the bed and one crawled on me as well. Needless to say a horrible nights sleep for the both of us.

We awoke and yes the same process bugs everywhere. We ate breakfast and went out to look at the hot tub only to find the unsanitary conditions it was in. i immediately called Ashley and told him we were  vacating the property due to the conditions and wanted our money back for the next two days. He said no and he be there in a few minutes. He said he was aware of the hot tub condition because he turned it on and saw the the slim whatever else was in it but refused to go look at it with me. He would only say the bugs were the  fault of the state of Virginia and not his. I looked at the other cabins and they had these bugs as well so we decided not to move to them. Her son was stepping on them to kill them. He said if we wanted a bug free enviorment then we needed to go to Florida.

I told him I was going to cancel the cashiers check and give him $125 for the night and we are leaving. He said if we give him $125 cash he would give us the check back and part ways. We gave him cash and told him to destroy the check as we just cancelled it. He represented himself as the business manager for his mother while she was in England so everything was legit as far as we knew.

Well, come to find out it was not. He apparently called his mother to inform her what he did and things got ungly from there. He wanted more money and I told him no because he signed a receipt for the cash for payment in full for one nights stay. It qucily became obvious that he did not have the authority and his mother Linda began sending us threatening e-mails that we defrauded and Inn Keeper and took advantage of fher son. She threatened to take out criminal charges against me for something her son agreed to. It became very clear that her son has not been forthcoming with her and she has treated my wife and I as criminals. She continued to accuse us of attacking her son and even to go as far as saying I conducted business against him with a gun. I was outraged by this remark and she still will remark as to what she meant by that.

I am all for her getting the full price as her son did not have the authority but she conducted herself without just cause and treated us unfairly. He was the only person we had there to deal with.

She accused us of trying to get free lodging from the beginning and this is in no way to treat a customer. She refuses to beleive that her son did not keep the properties up to her standards while she was out of the states. I am paying the remaining amount but feel I am entitled to a refund due to the stress she has put us through. She has used every excuse she can think of to defend her son and not even entertain the thought of listening to us. She never even attempted to call or work things out, she only immediately attacked us with threats without getting all the facts up front. She had no passion or concern for what we went thorugh or my wifes medical condition with wasp stings. She only said she knew of her own condition and she should have thought about that before coming. The bugs are okay living outside but we should not have to live with them in the house too.

We left this location and finished our vacation at another lodge and hour away, the place we usually go too.. We booked for two nights but only stayed for one as we left due to my injury and the conditions were wonderful. We did not ask for a refund nor did we want one as these people provided bug free enviorment as always as well as a crystal clear clean hot tub.

I would never reecommend doing business with this person or company ever. This women lashed out at us and never even asked questions later to get all the facts. Things could have turned out completely in the opposite direction has she only picked up the phone and made contact with me instead of taking her sons word as the gospel and making the accusations she did.
