I was contacted by Lori Arnold through the Houzz website for design services to be performed in her new home located in Silver Spring, MD. She told me she was moving from London with her baby and wonderful husband and is in dire need of a designer to accept delivery of furniture, install all the items and hand window treatments. This is a service we provide for people moving so it wasn't out of the ordinary to receive an email like this.
What was weird was her description of her husband and how much she loved him and her baby (most clients don't go into this kind of detail on first email.) I sent a reply and told her I need more information with regard to where she is moving, who is holding her furniture, when is the move date, etc.
Lori Arnold replied with a broken English email (even sent fake photos) and asked for my contact information she could mail a certified check to. Red flags went up...
I perused the internet for Houzz Scams and even contacted Houzz letting them know what was going on...(still waiting to hear back from them.) Didn't take me more than a few clicks on my keyboard to find her name plastered on Ripoff Report with very different scams but same MO...certified check.
Fellow Designer Beware! Do not give this woman any of your information and do not cash her check if you do!
