On Sunday, December 17th, 2006, at approximately 11:30pm My family and I lost our house to a fire. I was working for Lougee and Frederick's Florist at the time and had been with them for about a year and three months. The night of the fire my ex-boss Bill S. came out to our house for support and to let us know that his doors were open if we needed a place to stay. I lost everything I'd ever had in that fire, and ended up fleeing the house in a t-shirt and underwear.

Monday, 12/18/06, along with the guidance of my friend Traci, (because I was in such a state of shock) I contacted the American Red Cross for crisis relief assistance and to get vouchers for clothing, groceries, shelter, etc.

After we met with the Red Cross associate we headed to Bangor for clothes. My friend, Traci, and I stopped into the florist to let them know the status of our situation.

Cammie S. the boss' daughter showed deep concern for my family's situation, and she had already started to put a relief effort together. Making it sound like they were going to use some of their business clout, (being Bangor's busiest florist), to contact some of their connections and help us out. Later did I realize it was all an attempt to gain some sense of glory on their part.

The next day we went to Bangor again to get some essentials and things. We stopped into the florist again to keep them updated. They asked me what we were given for vouchers I told them we were given 130.00 per family member for clothing, 10.00 per person for toiletries, 30.00 per person for groceries. After telling them this they got this attitude about them that seemed as though they thought we were "all set" and were ready to resume our regular routine again.

I thought I was ready to go back to work the next day, but I just didn't feel ready to take on work in the mental state that I was in. I called at 8:00am Wednesday morning to let them know I wasn't ready to come back to work.

Later that day I received a phone call from my friend Traci telling me that Cammie left a message on her answering machine that said if I wasn't there by noon then I was and I quote "F***ing done." So, for fear of losing my job I headed straight to work. My father was given a week off from work to deal with the loss and my boss was complaining after two days. Where is the compassion today?!?

The donation jar they had placed on their store counter was taken down when I got to work. I was not really offended by this until a fellow co-worker pointed it out to me. The attitude I was presented with when I got to work was like they were completely put out.

If Cammie hadn't spent the entire morning wasting time on the phone looking for me they probably would have been fine and been able to manage the store minus one employee.

Later I was informed that some discussion behind my back and chastising occurred regarding my family accepting the charities and comments about us "milking the situation."

Thursday there was a verbal confrontation regarding the threat to be fired, the removal of the donation jar, and the overall attitude they gave me.

I had a fire marshal coming to interview me at the store that day about the fire. I was in the middle of the interview when Bill comes barging in a complete rage and was very rude to me and the fire marshal.

I was later called into the office to discuss what happened. I asked Bill if I could speak freely and when I was given permission I told him that "it is really clear to me that you don't care about your employees, their families, or their well-being and that all he cared about was his business."

He then stood up and approached me shouting, "THAT'S IT, YOU'RE DONE, YOU'RE FIRED, GET OUT!!" coming closer to my face as he's doing this. I reacted negatively and shoved him back three times and stormed out.

Under normal circumstances and without the amount of mental and emotional stress I was under I would have never reacted like that.

Later when I tried to claim unemployment he lied to the unemployment officials telling them that I punched him and clawed at his face and assaulted him before he fired me. When I found out the crap that he had filled them with I was overwhelmed by that and started to become upset on the phone.

It was just four days after the fire and four days before Christmas. Let me ask this one question, where is the compassion for fellow man? I ended up losing the unemployment and am still recovering from the incident.

Not to mention that Bill S. and Clara S. the co-owners of Lougee and Frederick's pay their daughter Cammie who is an hourly worker for a full forty hours a week even though she only works about twenty. They've also got a cash only register that none of the money is legally accounted for. It'd be nice to see the IRS take down this business and ruin their lives as they have mine.

In the statement he made to the unemployment bureau he stated, " I was sitting behind the desk and he was sitting in a chair." But how does one sit behind a desk that is up against the wall?!? Here is my side of what happened in that office. First of all I admit that I assaulted Bill. For that I'm truly sorry. I had gotten to the point in the conversation with him when I asked him to speak freely. My words were something to the effect of: "Well, Bill, it's really been made clear to me that you don't care about your employees welfare and the welfare of their families and that all you care about is your f***ing business!" This was when he himself became enraged and decided to yell at me and tell me "THAT'S IT, (stands up from his chair), YOU'RE FIRED, GET OUT! YOU'RE DONE!" Those were his exact words. I started for the door and was overtaken with rage and turned and attacked. He claims that he fired me after I attacked him, but I knew that as long as I did after he said the word fired I was no longer under his employment. So really there have been lies on both of our parts. In another letter he tried to deny the talk behind my back of being "as crazy as his mother and the whole rest of the Leach family." But, one of his ex employees was the one who was informing me the entire time whenever he'd say something spiteful or demeaning. So whatever denial he made he and I both know that there are atleast two people that heard him say that. Not to mention the chastising I was given behind my back about my family accepting charity money from the Red Cross and the statements about milking the situation. So, after all is said and done, I wish him the best and wish to speak to him in person and find out what really was said. I just wanted a little justice, but clearly that doesn't matter anymore. I revoke the lies about the bad business practices. The Sheehan's have certainly shown a great deal of generosity in the constant donations and charity they do. I genuinely wish I could have handled the situation differently. So here is my public apology. Bill, Clara, Cammie, and the rest of the crew, I'm sorry about what happened. I really feel that working for the Sheehan's taught me a lot; the knowledge of sales and how to interact with even the most difficult people at times. I'm sorry that I attacked him, I'm sorry that I said the things I did and the scene I caused. I wish that things could've went down differently, but as many a psychologist or anyone with a good knowledge of human psychology would know that a traumatic event can cause shock, depression, and an unstable mental state. Perhaps we can talk soon and repair some of the damages that were done. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive my downfalls, as I forgive yours. As you once said to me in another instance, we all have personality flaws and "quirks" as you put it. Take care and be well, Tyler Bucksport, ME

First of all, Tyler never once contacted me (the owner of the business) to state he was or wasn't coming in to work. He also never once approached myself or my wife concerning what was being done to help he and his family. We were in the process of setting up a fund for them. We were told legally that we had to go through a bank and set up an account for the family and also needed a social securtiy number to have the taxes paid on all donations.(was going to give them mine). The paperwork from the bank was being mailed to us to be filled out to start the fund. The local tv station that we called for coverage for a relief fund told us all this legal data. Tyler listening to idle gossip never asked me or my wife anything concerning this matter and jumped to conclusions. You have to realize we were very compassionate concerning this tradegy, but it was also the busiest week of our Christmas Holiday. All Tyler had to do was contact me personally, he chose not too and left messages to employees that I never recieved. When he did show up for work, I never approaced him or even talked with him concerning his job. What he didn't mention in his report was that he and two other employees had a fight in the middle of my business shouting, swearing and screaming when customers were present. This is the reason I had all three employees summonded to my office individually. They all were written up in their personnel files for this conduct. Tyler chose to become enraged with me, and regardless of what he states; he assaulted me and this was the reason for his dismissal. I have always treated my employees with respect as long as I recieve it back. As far as the unemployment is concerned, I know the laws and would never state untruths concerning this matter. Also, the same report was filed with the Bangor Police Dept. on the assault. He is lucky I didn't press charges against him. What I pay employees for the hours they work is my business and no one elses. I don't think Tyler realizes that Managers are paid salaries not hourly pay! Also reporting illegal business practices publicly is very close to slander and Tyler is setting himself up for some serious trouble. I am a well repected businessman in the Bangor area as well as in my field of work nationally. Anyone that knows me knows that I am very honest and treat all people equally and with respect. This report from Tyler is nothing more than from a very unhappy individual that could have avoided all of this trouble if he had just contacted me personally or by telephone and asked the truth. In all the paragraphs that he wrote about me and my family, none of it was stated to me personally. He seemed to forget that I AM(was) the BOSS and his(X) employer. There is so much stated out of proportion with lies and hear-say that I could go on for hours. I truly am sorry for his troubles and his families loss and wish them the best. Maybe someday Tyler will be man enough to come see me and Clara for the facts concerning all these accusations. I don't know of any other employer that wouldn't have done the same as I did in handling this matter. My wife and I have done nothing to ruin Tyler's life, he has done that quite well himself. After all the years he has know us, he knows we would never do anything to hurt anyone. We overlooked lots of problems with his work performance and gave him many chances to improve; which he was finally doing. The ironic thing concerning this matter, is that Tyler would still be working for me if he had only taken the time to come to me with all his accusations, instead of jumping to conclusions listening to gossip. About 90% of what he has stated is pure GOSSIP!
