To start off, I would like to inform the reader that I have been faithfully going to Mark's Place Spa for 2 years now. I'm a college student, 21 year's old, and MIND YOU, Mark's Place is VERY expensive and over priced. I go EVERY 6 weeks to get my roots done and highlighted. I also get pedicures, buy my products there, etc. I added it up and I spent well over $3000 there. I am one of their best clients.

On March 6th, 2009, I went to Mark's Place to get my hair done. After I was finished, my hair stylist walked me up to the front desk to get me checked out, help me w/ products, and so on. Brenda, the front desk manager and the owners wife, was cashing me out. Note: I was not speaking to her (not intentionally) but I was talking to my stylist about stuff that girls talk about. I handed Brenda my check, and I got my receipt stating that she cashed me out with a check of $104.99. (I still have to receipt). So I get a phone call the next morning (saturday) From one of the receptionists, Win, saying that my check has been lost, and asked if I had it with me anywhere. I said I'll check and call you back. Looked EVERYWHERE, did not find it. I called her back and she said "Can you come down and write another one?" I politely told her "no, I will not do that, what if someone has gotten a hold of it? i'll wait until i get my bank statement and we'll go from there.' I thought about it and called them back and stated how upset I am with their actions and how they are being very irresponsible about their actions. Win told me that it was Brenda who lost it, and she is Mark's wife. I said 'so that makes it okay? she should be more careful with marks money b/c its her's too'. I called my bank on the 12th and asked them what I could do, and they said I could put a stop payment on the check, and it would be a $20 fee. I called marks place and asked if i could get store credit of $20 and i'll write them the check for $104.99. They declined. They also informed me that the $104.99 is going to be charged to my account until its paid. I'm furious. I work in a restaurant, and my manager will do anything and everything to make sure our consumers are happy with everything, and if we mess up, we take care of their bill. Times are hard, and Mark's Place should be happy that I'm still coming there after all the business they have lost with people not being happy with their service and b/c of their outrageous prices. I was going to write them another check for $104.99 if they would reimburse me for the $20 fee to stop the last check. They are being rude and not taking responsibility for their actions. Now that I have gone through all this, I do NOT think I should have to pay the money that I already handed to them. It's like me going to Giant Eagle, giving them money, then they call me back and say 'we lost your money, can you come back and give me more money?'

It doesn't sound like times are too bad if you can pay $3,000 for "Stylists", manicures, 'products' and all.

This is what you're gonna do. You're gonna call you're bank and tell them to put a "stop payment" on that check. Make sure the check HASN'T PAID FIRST. Then put the stop payment on it. Then you're gonna mail mark's a check for $84.99, RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED, so they have to sign for it. Then, IF you want to go back, that's up to you. WHY are you upset? WHY are you furious? They screwed up and lost your check. If they don't like it, they can try and take you to court for the $20. The bad part about this is that mark's will take the unpaid balance out of your stylist's check. So she'll lose. That's assuming you DO pay them the $84.99 and not try and weasel out of paying them that. But that's part of being in business and THAT'S between your stylist and mark's. And drop all the other stuff.
